How much worse than Benanti could she be? How she ever got a Tony nod for Swing,is still a mystery to me and many others. Particularly when you think about the ladies/performances eligible in the same category that year. How did she get a nod *over* Sherie Scott, Orfeh and Amy Spanger? Imo, each one of the aforementioned, blew Benanti away. The nominating committee is not only getting old and feeble but they must have been really high on that particular day.

it sucks for benanti because she missed out on the chance to reprise her role in the broadway production of on the town. i bet she is made about that, she would have had more songs to sing LOL LOL :)

Remember that Benanti is the daughter of Martin Vidnovic who is also a highly problematic performer, a diva of the male variety with a very strong ego. Could be like father like daughter?

However, it would have to be genetic, because I believe he was not a part of her rearing. She took her stepfather's name, if that tells ya anything.

Al Dente, can you share some of the Vidnovic stories? I saw him years ago in BRIGADOON and I saw FOOTLOOSE in DC but after he had been replaced.

Well, there's the one about how he would, with no provocation whatsoever, start screaming in a co-stars face. There are also the tales of him spending so much time warming up his voice, that he'd lose it for the actual performance. Again, these are rumours that have swirled around forever. I wasn't there so I cannot verify.
