They're gonna be a hit.
I agree that this show is a killer . Glad we saw it when we did
The critics may feel that no matter how good it is it is their solemn duty to pan it to save the theatergoing public from the curse of the dreaded jukebox musical. Hopefully, it will be critic proof
There is obvious proof that it's not necessarily the critics' remarks that dissuade people from seeing a show.
As it has been in previews, Jersey Boys isn't, so far, a huge financial success. While the attendance numbers aren't abysmal, persay, they aren't fantastic either.
And this is before many reviews have come out. I guess that speaks volumes for a majority of the public's lack of interest in jukebox musicals regardless of reviews or word of mouth. Or "Jikebox" musicals if you're Mr. Roxy

This show is going to do quite well. Juke box musical or not. I think critics are against the typical juke box musical that takes an Artist's greatest hits and jumbles them into a storyline. Critics will not neccessarily pan however a well written bio-musical. This show has great buzz and audiences have loved it. I predict audience attendance will soar after after reviews come out and then of course after John Lloyd Young wins the Tony. *sigh*
If you didn't have "Friedman" in your user name, I would have completely discounted everything you said in your post.
But I'll give you a little slack...

It's bad luck to say "Good luck" on opening night.
Once you do, I'll tell you
It's certain by the curtain you are through!
I hope this shows a hit...and that its a good show as well

I feel so lucky to have seen this in previews. It was terrific. I think it will be critic proof, based on the reaction of the SRO house I saw it with who gave it standing ovations in the middle of the show, and all the people raving on the way out and waiting at the stage door. And yes, it's a still a way to the Tonys, but John Lloyd Young simply has to be nominated! He is amazing, so gifted.
So far, one of the best if not best reviewed show in awhile. Congratulations to Jersey Boys. Here's to a long and healthy run!

When someone has so little grasp of the topic of which they speak then perhaps they really should change their avatar and signature to "I'M WRONG" rather than proclaiming something different to others.

dd, don't waste your breath. Just let 442 rack up the negative karma spewing ineloquent diatribes and resorting to personal attacks employed when the speaker lacks wit or wisdom.
