How about The Witch's "rap" section of Into the Woods
or Worst Pies in London from Sweeney

"Worst Pies in London" is a great suggestion. I would definitely stay away from "Kiss Me" for an audition. "Getting Married Today" is also an excellent suggestion. "Everybody Loves Louis" could work too. But I think "Show Me" is the best suggestion so far.
Just my 2 cents.
Cheers,

Posted: 11/12/04 at 2:33pmI agree with Show Me, and when I saw this thread title my immediate thought too was Words, Words, Words from Witches of Eastwick. But perhaps TOO wordy.

Posted: 11/12/04 at 2:41pmLook at "If" by Jule Styne. Kristin C does it in her concerts and I think its on her album. It's not Sondheim, but its very fast, belty, with lots of lyrics. Great song! Have a good audition.

How about "Could I Leave You" from Follies? Wordy, and the music is very similar to that of Into the Woods.

Posted: 11/13/04 at 1:48pmHow about the faster parts of "Speed Test" from Thoroughly Modern Millie? Its not Sondheim, but still very fast. You could sing all of Millie's parts, which get faster and faster as you go on. Good luck with your audition!

Posted: 11/13/04 at 2:46pmIt is pretty much assumed I think, that at some point Sondheim will get involved briefly in the production. As he is heavily affiliated with our school. The Director is also said to be his assistant or something...I could be wrong.

Posted: 11/13/04 at 3:09pmCan't remember who first mentioned Words, Words, Words from Witches of Eastwick, but the sheet music is available as part of the Vocal Selections. At least, it is over here, so I assume it would be your side of the Pond too. Since you always seem to have what I can't find in the UK.

Posted: 11/14/04 at 9:18pmNor sure if the audition came and went already, but I would suggest "Crossword Puzzle" from Starting Here, Starting Now.

Don't know if this will show off range too much, but Don't Ah Ma me from Kander and Ebb's the Rink is wordy. Old musical that I don't think a lot of people know the music to. Come to think of it, its...a duet though...but maybe you can fashion in to make it a solo?

Posted: 11/16/04 at 2:54pmIf you're trying for Rapunzel, "The Finer Things" from Jane Eyre is quite wordy and coloratura-ish. =) ALthough kind of an odd song, if it's done without "splatting" the high notes it can be a nice, fairly showy number. "What More Do I Need" from Saturday Night is wordy,a really great song and can be sung really fast.
