Posted: 8/3/10 at 2:22amEnclosing the stage and adding a fly loft, which is what the KC Starlight did, is not cheap or easy by any means. I don't see the Muny going that route anytime soon. They are incredibly successful with what they do and they have little incentive to change that.

Posted: 8/3/10 at 4:16amI think that their production of Beauty and the Beast had a beautiful set. The sets are designed to be seen from very far away. The shows also run for about a week then they have to take it down and set up for a new show. I think some of their productions are beautiful, but others are tacky and just look cheap. We do have to keep in mind that this is an outdoor summer stock theatre.

Going to Muny is akin to going to the ballgame. You have to rise and sing the national anthem before, people get drunk and rowdy in the bleachers and it's ungodly hot.
I did see A Chorus Line there once and because they had the orchestra offstage, we were able to sit in the very front just a few feet from the stage. That was one of the few relatively non-torturous experiences I've had there.

Wow. Those costumes are atrocious. I think the set is actually pretty nice though. This is from their 2005 production, not the most recent one.
