I would die! I think you could atleast use some of the numbers in a showcase atmosphere. God I love that movie!
i don't know... it is my all time favorite movie.... but i don't know if you could re-create it.... i suppose.... i don't kow.. i just love it though!
Loved this movie and YES it would be sooo wonderful live!

Well, I happened to have a little conversation with Miss Parker Posey who told me that they did consider "Going To Broadway!" with this when they were making it.
It would have been fabulous!

i feel like the ONLY way to pull it off would be to keep the original cast, maybe you could get a new Johnny or Clifford Wooley - but the others would have to remain the same!
As much as I think Guffman is brillant, I think the film's "documentary" style is what really makes it what it is.
You couldn't recreate that on the stage with success.

its true - the "mockumentary" is what is so hilarious. And Blaine, Missouri! I'm from MO and sad to say that towns like that really do exist. Dairy Queen is the epicenter of life.

if only we had Dairy Queen in NYC. Then my life would be complete
That movie is hilarious, and I would love to see it on stage. It would be so perfect, but they'd have to keep the originals in it for it to work, definately.
One of my ALL TIME FAVORITES!
Onstage, well, the only real issue would be how they would pull off when they actually do badly act onstage?

It's a great movie about the theatre, but it's also about 60% talking heads: the action doesn't really start until the performance, which on stage could be deadly.
Dunno, folks -- there are some things that are probably best left in their original form.
I love Waiting for Guffman! It's hilarious, but I don't think it would work as a show in the way they did the movie. It could work if they made it just a story, and not a mockumentary. Although, that would be intriguing; a mockumentary musical!
this is my FAVORITE movie but, someone did approach Guest/Levy and they did not want to bring it to the stage. They felt it would be too much work and they would need to rewrite some stuff and they also were not keen on handing over rights to other people.
That's probably why we would never see this on stage. So much of it could not be recreated and the documentary format is part of what makes it. Let's share our favorite Guffman moments! "Saltwater?! hubba hubba hubba" "You're bastard people, that what you are. You're just bastard people!" "I hate you and you ass face!"
I am in agreeance with you J. My favorite line from that movie is, "Your bastard people. That's what you are." I used to qoute that line at my college all the time last year, along with 3 other guys. Memories.........

oh and when corky talks about buying most of his wife "Bonnie's" clothes!
"everybody dance!"
Another favorite moment : coky demostrates his amazing dance moves that could be used in the show, while wearing that amazing crop top and backwards jeans.
I was at a gay club in Philly this halloween and they had the most wonderful costume contest - and this guy went as Corky. He even had a Remains of the Day lunchbox. It was amazing! (yes i am a straight female ....)
Grab your fellas by the hand and welcome them to the promise land. Grab your ladies by the arm and take them out behind the barn.
Mmmmmedicine Man not go near Dances With Stumpy! Noooo!!
We may be going to BROADWAY!! I opened up a map of New York and it's an ISLAND is really what it is! It's an island filled with a kinds of people. I think I'll meet some Italian guys and watch TV and stuff.
Ima, I'm going to fight for my country. To fight and perhaps die so that young men from from hear to Tim-buck-to can feel the wind of freedom blowing in the hair. Updated On: 7/6/04 at 12:53 AM
