I know the theatre is small, but are balcony seats worth the good price tag?
they really are! i sat up there in jan. with my binoculars and it was great! get those seats. you still get the same veiw as you would in the mezz or orch
if you sit in the balcony, definitely try and get Row A.
the view from the mezz is great, but the rake is scary...I had to hang onto the seat in front when I stood up.
I looked up to the balcolny..you may need to attach a rope as you approach the front!
Who are you kidding????
The balcony at the Walter Kerr is absolutely ATROCIOUS!
Seriously, there is no worse seat in all of Broadway
It is literally 2 rows of giant throne-like chairs stuffed into an attic-like space 2-inches from the ceiling. The ONLY good view you'll have is of the audience's bald-spots.
I'll be sitting in the balcony for this show (Row A) in about a week and a half and all the negative things I've heard on here about this theater's balcony have made me really worried about the view I'll have. Yet on the other hand, the best thing I can do is just see it for myself.
I've heard terrible things about the rear mezz of the Broadway and the balcony of the Palace, but when I actually sat there for myself I didn't mind it at all. Obviously it still felt pretty far and high up and I couldn't see facial expressions, but that didn't stop me from enjoying myself. Just to see Night Music again will be worth it to me (without having to stand this time). So to the OP, if the balcony's your only option, I'd say go for it. The show is fantastic.
The difference between this and the balcony at the Palace is that the Palace balcony is technically a good view of the stage, it's just far away.
The balcony of the Walter Kerr is close enough, but the angle is awful. If you're in the first row, you spend the whole show leaning over the railing to even see the stage beneath the ceiling of the proscenium. If you're in the second row, you have to lean at an angle to see over the person in front of you and under the ceiling. Both rows have to balance just right to make sure they don't lean too far and topple over the edge. My lower back was sore the morning after I saw Grey Gardens.
I'd rather stand and see the whole show than sit and miss the bottom half of the proscenium.
