I just had one of what I believe was the most confusing days I've ever had in the theater, at War Paint.
Here are my thoughts, and I'd love to hear some other's thoughts.
The show:
The Opening was very strong. Through "Back on Top" I had a huge smile on my face.
After that, it began to weaken. "The Secret Weapon" was long, and put the show to a grinding halt.
Face to Face blew everyone away.
Patti Lupone's acting in Act 2 created several laugh out loud show stopping moments, but it wasn't enough to take back some of the long, repetitive scenes that occured.
Dinosaurs was the weirdest thing I've seen in a while.
Christine Ebersole nailed Pink.
The final scene was powerful, but went on for way too long and ruined the magic.
The cast:
This was perhaps the best ensemble I've heard on Broadway in a while.
Patti and Christine lit up the stage whenever they were on it, however, I do not believe this show was able to catch their full potential acting, and singing wise.
The male principals (John Dosset and Douglas Sills) were really good! Step on out was masterfully sung and acted.
I honestly don't know what to think about this show, and would love to hear other's experience.
