I just had one of what I believe was the most confusing days I've ever had in the theater, at War Paint.
Here are my thoughts, and I'd love to hear some other's thoughts.
The show:
- The Opening was very strong. Through "Back on Top" I had a huge smile on my face.
- After that, it began to weaken. "The Secret Weapon" was long, and put the show to a grinding halt.
- Face to Face blew everyone away.
- Patti Lupone's acting in Act 2 created several laugh out loud show stopping moments, but it wasn't enough to take back some of the long, repetitive scenes that occured.
- Dinosaurs was the weirdest thing I've seen in a while.
- Christine Ebersole nailed Pink.
- The final scene was powerful, but went on for way too long and ruined the magic.
The cast:
- This was perhaps the best ensemble I've heard on Broadway in a while.
- Patti and Christine lit up the stage whenever they were on it, however, I do not believe this show was able to catch their full potential acting, and singing wise.
- The male principals (John Dosset and Douglas Sills) were really good! Step on out was masterfully sung and acted.
I honestly don't know what to think about this show, and would love to hear other's experience.
