A friend went this evening and Anthony Warlow pulled a muscle during rehearsals today and was unable to go on.
As his understudy has only learnt the first half hour of the show they performed that as a preview and then Warlow, Frost and McAnuff spoke and Warlow sang a snippet from the show.
Offer of refunds or exchanges on tickets with the emphasis on exchanges apparently.
bless. hope him recover well.
O.M.G!!!!!!! This show should be shut down if actors are getting injured!
I blame Julie Taymor!
Love it!
An avalanche of snow got him.
If only that could be a possibility - not nearly enough snow in the show for an avalanche I am afraid.
The matinee just finished ... and woah!! Big tunes, big emotions and big voices. No stops and curtain came down just over 3 hours from the top. Act I drags, but after interval the show trundles along for a good 75 minutes of honest lyracism and heart. Anton Berezin was in for Warlow, and boy did he do a good job. A standing ovation which was only cut off by the curtain and exit music.
Go see this show!!
I would rather see Anton Berezin. And knowing Warlow's attendance record, I probably will.
LOL - too true
Was it three shows a week or four that he actually bothered to perform during Phantom three years ago?
I don't know, but I got the understudy when I saw it all those years ago.
You certainly weren't the only one....
I heard he peformed 4 a week on average. Dreadful.
Warlow is back in the show tonite.
One of the things that came out of this was people paying full price for previews, including people who had paid for producers seats at over the top prices for the first preview
So how long before he takes his next show off, or Berezin becomes the alternate Zhivago?
And charging full price for previews is very poor form. If they are selling them at the same price as regular performances, they might as well not have previews and have the first preview as Gala opening. Its just another example of producers' greed.
This show is an uninsightful, boring drag. Warlow's character is about as deep as a sheet of cardboard. I didn't feel anything for any character. The dialogue was cliché and at times just cringeworthy. There were some interesting moments e.g. when the lover/wife sing a duet about each other, when Lara sings about being with Viktorbut, a song about communism called "perfect world" [I think]. I haven't seen the movie or anything, but I imagine that it's better because the characters might seem more interesting and like real people.
They are taking pre-orders for an Australian cast recording...so it looks like that may happen. Which is good, I guess. But arghh.
That's exciting news. If anything, I do enjoy Lucy Simon's music.
Qolbinau I tend to agree -have you seen the Ticketmaster user reviews though? Must surely be some shilling going on there. Average 4.1/5 yet all the people I have spoken to range from 'ok' to 'boring and drab'.
