I just went to the Avenue Q website and clicked on Stephanie's bio, and this was the first part of it:

"Broadway debut – whoo-hoo! Stephanie received a Drama Desk nomination for Avenue Q (Off-Broadway)..."

Was it originally an Off-Broadway show?

Yes, it first played off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre in Union Square before transferring to Broadway.

I wish I had seen it in the Vinyard, imagine how cool it would be to see it in such a tiny intimate theatre
