Was Gepetto on Broadway?

Or was it created specifically for The Wonderful World of Disney as a shameless remake of "Pinocchio" and a vehicle for a fat guy with stupid glasses who had two shows on ABC and sat at a desk and "[did] not do...a daaaaaaamn thing"?

Gepetto was not on Broadway.
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

Then was there a similar show like it on Broadway? Because I think there is a real musical called "Gepetto" somewhere.

http://www.ibdb.com and search the show's title.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

The Stephen Schwartz score was really good, one of his best; it's a shame it never got a life after a TV showing.

Actually...The Coterie in Kansas City, Time Magazine's third top children's theatre company, is world premiering the musical this summer. Ernie Nolan is doing the musical direction and also starring as the villian. It should be amazing, based on his past work at University of Michigan, The Coterie, Music Theatre Wichita, and all of the Chicago work he's done.
