I recently just looking through the captialization reporting on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and saw that ATG Paid Cirque du Soleil $23 million to close Paramour last April. I knew Cirque du Soleil was paid to close the show early, but the show was a sleeper hovering around its nut the entire run, so I thought ATG was likely just paying out the cast and crews current contracts with a minimal payout for Cirque du Soleil itself as it didn’t seem like the show was going to last through the end of last summer anyway. $23 million sounds more like the full capitalization for a show of Paramour’s size. Therefore I was wondering if technically speaking producers would consider Paramour a hit since due to the buyout the investors will earn back its money.
This would be similar to how Shuffle Along and War Paint are technically hits as the investors earned or should earn back their full investments due insurance claims. (SHUFFLE Along for Audra’s pregnancy and War Paint for Patti Lupone’s hip surgery)
