We Will Rock You did very well in Toronto and continues to do decent in London.
Why hasn't it been slated for Broadway?
Not that I a big fan or anything (never seen or heard it), but after seven years in London, one might think that it would find its way here.
Thoughts?
I really enjoyed it, although mostly because of the lead who inspired my screenname. Saw it in Vegas, where it did OK AFAIK.
Not sure why they never tried it in the US, since Queen's appeal certainly isn't unique to the UK, and anything that has any lasting appeal in either B'way or the West End gets duplicated at the other.
But, I don't think we should necessarily be disappointed that a jukebox musical (with a very weak plot) isn't taking up another B'way theater.

NO! We already have Mamma Mia we don't need this! Let something inventive and original come to the boards instead!
Great show! We will Rock you is poure fun!The music and talent was first class. I saw the Show when in Vegas (it has since left) The femail lead was Jenn Gambatese who I later saw star in All Shook Up on Broadway. This musical did what the title told me it would... it ROCKED ME!!
I agree in the fact that I am supriesed that it hasn't tried for Broadway yet. It seems to do well in every other place it played in.
At least when it started to play in vegas it was able to play at the full length. It was only towards the end of its run when they had to cut the length down to 90 min.

The show just wouldn't work in NY. It's very campy. VERY campy.
And based upon the great reviews Xanadu got NY can't do camp?
Not, trying to start a fight and just saying is all. I haven't seen eiather show.
But, from what I have heard about We Will Rock You is that it is just a vehicel to give an excuse to have one Queen song after another up on stage. Then again, that is pretty much the backbone of any jukebox musical so I don't see how We Will Rock You is any different.

I LOVE We Will Rock You but I don't think it will be a success on Broadway, critical or financially. I know that it got terrible reviews in England but...I dunno...European audiences are different.
WE WILL ROCK YOU closes in Toronto May 11.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
tonytonytony.....Jenn was never in WWRY...You probably saw Aspen Miller or Kacie Sheik.
As for why it won't ever go to B'way. It was a fun show with a great cast and kickass band in Vegas but a failure as far as ticket sales. The book was TOTALLY changed by Ben Elton from the London version, just as it has been for Toronto. Exactly which version they'd even try in NY would be a mystery. The humor is mostly European which is why it's successful in London. Also, Queen was, and still is, HUGE in Europe and London is but a train ride away from most of it. While Queen had success in the US it was nothing that sustained WWRY in Vegas. It will be interesting to see how a Canadian tour goes, which they are talking about.
God no...
