The box office has been doing pretty well lately, or so I've heard.
Besides, why would you wish a show to close? Let it run it's course, yeesh!

I don't they'd kick Julia to the curb for an American Idol runner-up (I don't think she'll win).
Also, do the contracts that the actors sign mean nothing? It seems like actors can leave a show whenever they want and can get fired whenever they want? What the hell do these contracts mean?

Trash: Stop defending this show and Ms. Benanti at any cost - we know you love her and we know you have her phone number.
Fine. Great. Wonderful.
And no where in the intital post did he/she say that it is their wish that the show close.

Where in there did I defend Laura Benanti? Oh. Right. Nowhere.
Second of all - he's talking about how it's not doing well and when they're going to stunt cast because otherwise it'll close. Why can't you guys just let a show run it's damn course? You do it with every Goddamn show on Broadway. I'm just sick of reading it.
And you know something? Regardless of the fact that I know anyone, hell, I could know someone who's giving a crap performance too, guess what? I'd SAY it. I tell all of my friends when I think they're not working at their best. And personally, I feel she's giving a great performance with mediocre material. TWS isn't supposed to be a brilliant, art-changing piece of theater. It's a comedy. It's supposed to be fun. And it is funny and it is most definately a good time. Sometimes it's nice to have that on Broadway.

Posted: 5/24/06 at 11:34amI'm seeing it in June. I can't imagine it's as bad as some people are saying. I love some of the music, and the fact that it got five Tony noms make me question those people.

I didn't laugh much at all.
I have friends working on and in the show and I would not like to see them lose their jobs, but I would want to see them in a BETTER show!

Posted: 5/24/06 at 11:56amCurtain, I agree. I'd love to see Amy, Laura, Stephen and Kevin all in one stellar show. But this seems to be a crowd-pleaser. Each time I've seen the show, the audience has seemed to love it. I'm glad that they're getting exposure and they're working. The show isn't bad. It's not the best thing since sliced bread, but I think the creative team has put together a nice, fun show.

Curtain, your show is doing pretty good. I don't see why you keep bashing Wedding Singer in hopes it closes fast to get more audience to your show.
Iluv, don't listen to munk (but again, who does?).. You have the right to defend anyone or anything you want on this public board.

Thanks, Tiny. I know. I'm just a little tired of Munk's crap. Please, the guy came to a college production at my school and tore it apart in a PM to me. He treated it as if someone of Joe Mantello's stature had directed AND had the cowardice to tell me his real name. I really just take what he says with a grain of salt.
(Let me just state that the production was a beautiful work using Bogart's viewpoints.)

Oh, bringing THAT into play, are you?
Actually.
I went to see a production at your school because I had friends in it.
I thought I recognized you from your avatar.
I asked you, via PM, if it was indeed you.
You asked me what I thought of the show.
I told you that I didn't feel comfortable discussing it.
You said "It's okay, tell me what you thought."
So I did. I don't see the problem.

Well munk...in case you were wondering, I respect your opinions and look forward to what you have to say about shows and performers.
But back to the subject...are you hinting that Katharine McPhee would take over for Benanti? No chance in hell...

I still don't understand why they cast a spoil rich girl look in this girl next door character.
Am I mean enough? Well, it's my first and hopefully it will be last. I'm just really tire with this critizing other people opinion as too mean or ALL ABOUT ACTORS stuffs.

Posted: 5/24/06 at 12:53pmOh sorry, based on the title of this thread I thought it was about Taylor Hicks. My mistake.
#18re: Wedding Singer Prediction
Posted: 5/24/06 at 1:49pmI really think this is getting ridiculous. Luv had every right to say what he said. I happen to agree with him. You don't like the show? Fine. Don't make comments about how soon it's going to close and stunt casting to keep it open and all of that.

Saw the matinee today, and the theater seemed to be packed !
Liked it a lot more this time around. Amy Spanger deserved a Tony nom, IMHO... and Stephen grew a bit on my this time.

Tiny: did you read what i said?
I do not want the show to close.
and I have no "investment" in any new show
except to like it.
if you wanna "beat up" on someone read what Reidel has been saying about TWS and leave me alone with my opinions.
Let's go see a show together and laugh.
Nice new pic Muscle!

I already know I'm not a great person.
At least I know to take everything on this board with a grain of salt.
Munkustrap made me laugh, so I applauded him - exactly what I do at The Wedding Singer.

See, I don't see Laura as the rich bitch type at all. She could def. play the part, but I think she looks very "girl-next-door" and I think her "look" is a very good contrast to Amy Spangers. I think it works well. At first I agreed that I didn't think her voice fit the music, but the more I thought about it, it seems like the girl-next-door would have a more operatic voice instead of a big brassy belt. To each his own, I guess.
