People who saw it tonight....please post your reviews!! I wanna know what other people thought....
Yeah, I liked "Hear Me Out."
Just got in fm seeing it...***Possible Spoilers***
I predict in advance that it will take home the TONY for choreography and for lighting design. Possible set design as well. The show was sold out, which is great for a second preview! The score is great, although some might hate it. "Ra" is used for much of the story-telling so you have to follow closely. The cast is great and are talented triple-threat performers. The Set was great, really showing a realistic Washignton Heights. The lighting was fantastic, think along the lines of Spring Awakening's lighting. The choeography was an amazing mix of hip-hop/contemporary but seemed to fit the style they were looking to acheive. The one issue I have is the weak book. The character relationships are a little weak at times, and it is hard to make connections and get emotionally attached to the characters, but overall an EXCELLENT show....GO SEE IT! I think it will have a decent run because of it's original, family friendly vibe, along with the backing of a core audience of lations.
I don't have time to write an entire review, but the new stuff that was good. Here's some of the highlights.
******spoiler warning******
Breathe- The new lyrics are amazing, to me. Some people are iffy about it, but I LOVE it.
96,000- OMG THE ENDING. Can I just say that Lin made this song so much more fiercer than it already was, which is just... wow. Very fierce. A++++.
Enough- I love this song because now the role of Camila is more developed.
Champagne- This song is incredibly cute. I think it's a great addition, but I will definitely miss 'Goodbye'.
When The Sun Goes Down- Way too cute. Parts of 'Hear Me Out' is in the song, which is good.
I'm tired, so I probably repeated myself a lot. I'll be at the show tomorrow matinée, so I'll post more about it tomorrow!
Im glad to hear there are remnants of "Hear me out" because it was one of my favs
crushgroove, thanks for the shout out. I'll take all the BWW cred I can get
I saw the show tonight. I'm not gonna write a long review, I don't really know how to do that, so I'm just gonna say a couple of things.
First of all, it was the best seat I've ever had on Broadway. Center orchestra, 7th or 8th row in the middle. Wasn't too close, wasn't too far, it was perfect!
The show goes on my top 5 list. It's the coolest show I will ever see on Broadway. I couldn't help but bop my head to the music, it's fantastic. The set and the lighting is gorgeous, especially at the end of Act 1. The characters were really great. I loved the salon owner. She cracked me up every time she opened her mouth. Lin-Manuel Miranda is charming, funny and poetic. I can't imagine an understudy for him, because he was just perfect. I'm only gonna mention him, because there were 4 or 5 other actors who stood out. The finale number gave me the most chills. I had a fantastic night, and I can not wait to see it again.
