Link is below... It's actually going to be a 90 minute show and Marc, Scott and the rest of the creative team are working on the changes now. From what I've heard the cuts planned make sense in paring it down to the alotted time.
'Hairspray' to replace Blue Man Group at Luxor

Thanks.

Please let us know if there's any press on what the cuts will be. I think it'd be an interesting article (or link, whatever) here on BWW. Maybe Marc will tell us

Well, I've always thought of "It's Hairspray" as a Vegas showgirl number
Many congrats to Misters Shaiman & Wittman re: Welcome to the 60...minute show (Hairspray goes Vegas)

Tracy wakes up and sings "GOOD MORNING BALTIMORE" so well that she is crowned "Miss Hairspray" and sings "YOU CAN'T STOP THE BEAT".

then the cast and audience plays Keno, gets sick at the "all you can eat buffet" and goes home happy

The End

Cute and clever. Will it be the PG rated version on Broadway, or the Baltimore denizens be more colorful re: Welcome to the 60...minute show (Hairspray goes Vegas)

"I don't know about these shows in Vegas and how they are cutting them down... "

I agree. Why bother producing the show in Vegas in first place if they're not going to do all of it?? What's the point? Yes, there's a lot to do in Vegas, but theatre is theatre, if a person who buys the ticket doesn't understand that it will be a show of approx. 2,5 hours maybe he/she shouldn't buy the ticket after all...

#1090 minuet show you mean:)

We are getting lots of 90 minute shows coming to Las Vegas. Mamma Mia! is the full show and CHICAGO was when it was here. Forever Plaid just opened again off the strip. But it is the same as the one that used to be on the strip I understand. I think it was always 90 min. I will see on Monday when I go.

Most people who come to Las Vegas (tourist) know the shows are not full shows. I think WE WILL ROCK YOU is closer to 2 hours with no intermission.

The reason they have these shows is that people will go out at intermission and not return. They will back to gambling that is the major reason they do the shorter versions in the hotel/casinos.

I have seen many shortened versions of Broadway type shows and do not think they are that bad. It is better than nothing, when you live in Las Vegas.

We do not always get the best touring productions and our theatre is not state of the art for touring productions. But we are supposed to get a performing arts center finally. But probably a few years down the line:)

Yours,

Carolyn

The no intermission ploy is a casino thing. The casino uses the show to get you into their casino. They want you there. They use all types of ploys, free drinks, machine pulls, etc. They feel once you are there you will gamble. They do not want to keep you away from the casino floor for long. They look at a 2 1/2 show as an 1 hr to long from gambling. Therefore, they ask for no intermission and a shorter show, if possible. Therefore, they have the best of both worlds - good entertainment that gets people back to the casino floor as quickly as possible. It is all about the money.

It is all about the money.

How true. And not just on the part of the casino owners. How sad that the audiences won't see the whole show. Maybe they should cut out all the racial themes and make it just another teeny-bopper show. First we have the juke box musical now we have the Reader's Digest musical!

PEACE.

Will the next production be "Hairspray On Ice." It could tour the country and play all the major sports arenas. Just think of those large Tracy and Edna heads on the skaters. I think Oksana Baiule is free.

CHICAGO in Las Vegas was the full version, like MAMMA MIA! which is playing at the same theatre. It is a little different as it is in an area off from the casinos and a state of the art theatre.

Carolyn

If you can't do the whole show, don't do it at all. Who wants an audience anyway that can't wait to get back to the casino?

I say good for them. If a company of artists is working, and the creators are content and compensated for their work, then it is a wonderful thing!

Actually, these shortened versions of musicals were very popular in Vegas in the 1960's and 70's.

I'm surprised they haven't started doing them in Branson, Mo.

Well, I'm thrilled!

Maybe they should call it "Spritz!"

Will they be auditioning in Vegas?

We should have a vegas BWW party when it opens - C'mon, Carolyn, MyNameInLights and the rest of ya'all!

Well, she WAS at the Little Women opening night. Who knows she might be interested. :)

DivaMommy, I can't get your name in lights, only headliners get their names on the marquee in this town. Stars of shows do not get their names on the marquee only the show. Opening night will most likely be press and an after party...maybe red carpet. Depends on the PR firm.

I imagine they will do as they usually do with shows that come to Las Vegas, they audition here, in NYC and sometimes Los Angeles.

I can find a place to have a get-together, if Rob wants me to. Depending on the ages we have lots of night clubs in Las Vegas, you have to be 21 to get in and they do card people here. We have lots of places to party here. I have friends that are good at doing parties and getting cast members to come from other shows, but it will cost:)

Just give a holler Rob and I can see what I can do.

Carolyn, you crack me up!

BTW, you know me better as MysteryDiva!

Anyways, MyNameInLights is a fellow Las Vegan who also posts here - I was just inviting her to join in the fun! However, an opening night party would be great.
