100% on board with Naya Rivera as Anita. She's far too perfect not to do it. I think Maria would have to be a theatre actress based on the difficulty of the score.
They/them.
"Get up the nerve to be all you deserve to be."
I have a feeling if they remake this that Spielberg's approach may be to cast kids the actual age of the characters. If that were the case I suspect we would see largely unknowns. Spielberg after all really is the big-name draw here, of course along with the title.
I hope they cast a Latino girl who can sing (the role) and act as Maria. No Natalie Wood "white pretending to be Puerto Rican and dubbed because I can't sing soprano" scenario
Natalie had a vague ethnic look but I agree that they should cast actors who are ethnically accurate to the characters. Natalie was Russian and George Chakiris is of Greek descent. at least Rita was Puerto Rican!
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
Lol I always loved George chakiris as Bernardo. As a kid I thought he was so cute and cried so hard when he died haha. And I would always rewind to his or Anita's scenes I barely cared about Maria or tony. I was weird.
But yeah they should try to get Hispanic to play the Puerto Ricans actors. I don't know if the remake is coming anytime soon and to be honest I love Spielberg but I'm not sure how necessary it is. I feel it would be unknowns though
