ljay ~ You need to pump your brakes. I never claimed they needed me to continuing running on Broadway. I've made a personal decision based on what I've seen not to go see this production.
I saw this revival in Washington and I must say I was so "caught up" with seeing this show on stage for the first time in my lifetime that I really didn't catch any of these flaws.
YOU seem to have a problem with that, well that's on you.
Why don't you run along and worry if A-rab's pants are going to be down during the rape scene for tonight's performance.

I agree wicked. Parts seemed like she was screaming.
Marquise - did you just change your opinion of a show you saw and liked after reading what other people thought?

- Exactly. I feel sorry for someone like that.

No I did NOT change my opinion of something after reading what other people thought. I don't let other people sway my opinions.
I am basing my opinion (read that again: OPINION) based on video footage that has been posted. Which is much clearer to me than what I saw on stage in Washington earlier this year. So your sorrow is waaay misplaced ljay.
But I do feel sorry for people who's main concern over a revival is based on whether a certain characters pants are UP or DOWN during a certain scene. :)

- Grow up. Your ringleader PAL JOEY even agreed it was the single best change Arthur made to the show.
Pants UP or DOWN does not a revival make.
Pamela Otterson, that's a name I'll remember. She just steals the show... yes, Graziella is the one you can't take your eyes off during the Dance at the Gym and "Cool." Disappointing.
I'm starting to find it a bit vicious the way people keep trashing poor Karen though. Yes, I am as disappointed at everybody else that the Gennaro choreography has been altered and distilled, but I don't think it's necessary to keep trashing her over and over. Again, I believe all responsibility lies in Arthur Laurents who clearly decided to make dancing irrelevant in this revival to bring out his book and the score.
No. Miss Olivo is not to blame. I think she's an extremely gifted performer. I loved her in IN THE HEIGHTS.
"Ringleader"? You mean GANG LEADER!

I actually think that Karen Olivo strains everytime she belts--that's why her vibrato sounds fluttery. It's going to take a toll on her voice sooner or later.

I'm not familiar with West Side Story. I never saw it or listened to the songs growing up. Is "Cool" a memorable part of the show? I was incredibly bored watching it. Why haven't they used their Tony and Maria during any of these promotional spots?

I thought the dancing in cool was good, but the dancing in America was pedestrian and Olivo's voice was unimpressive. Sad.
