What About Alice Ripley as Kristen's replacement??

What about Alice Ripley for Glinda when Kristen Leaves?

Not a bad choice, I mean she was hilarious in Company, as Amy "Not Getting Married Today" and Audrey in "Little Shop" and we can't forget her over the top Janet in "Rocky Horror"

I saw Alice in Carousel as Julie Jordan and she has a grogeous soprano. She also sings "My White Night" and "Til There Was You" from Music Man on some of her recordings, so no don't she can hit all the operatic parts, and NO doubt she can belt along side Idina, and ham it up during popular!

I am a big Alice fan, and personally think Kerri Butler fits the role of Glinda best, but Alice would be an awesome choice.

I would actually like to see Alice do Elphaba!!! Omygod, her lungs of steal singing "Defying Gravity!!"

In that other thread everyone's mentioning that the suggestions people have given are too old. Alice Ripley definitely looks too old, in my opinion at least. Talented woman, but I don't see her as Glinda.

OMG!!! NEVER!!!! Ripley could never even come close to the talents of Kristin! I would be picketing outside if that were to happen.

re: re: re: What About Alice Ripley as Kristen's replacement??

ok ok

it's one thing to say alice isn't right for the part, but i think you're going overboard by saying alice doesn't come close to the talents of kristen "i play every role the same" chenoweth.

I like kristen too, but come on, all the roles she plays are the SAME!

alice's roles are a little more varied that kristen. alice was an bratty tom-boyish irish protestor in THE DEAD, Dramatic Fantine in LES MIZ, the shy sister in SIDE SHOW, Betty in SUNSET BLVD, Julie Jordan in CAROUSEL, Amy in COMPANY, Audrey in LITTLE SHOP... Alice is a little more versatile as a performer. She can be both ingenue, as well as character, as well as dramatic, as well as belter. The only thing is she can't tap like kristen. But which role of kristen's has been dramatic without laughs?

lemme repeat, i like kristen, but let's not go there saying alice doesn't have talent.

thank you for your time.

She doesn't have the voice for Glinda. I've seen her in two shows including Company and Tell Me On A Sunday. Her performance in Company was phenomenal and her performance in Tell Me On A Sunday was god awful. After Tell Me On A Sunday, I only wish to see her in supporting roles.

re: re: re: re: re: re: What About Alice Ripley as Kristen's replacement??

sure she has the voice for it. i have seen her in carousel julie jordan. and her comic timing and super speed "not getting married" seemed to win you over. i think it was the directing and musical directing that made alice hafta sink or swim, and she sunk.

but you're all right saying she's not completely right for glinda, well i don't think that laura bell bundy is the best choice. i would NEVER have thought she had a glorious operatic soprano like kristen, but she must have, right?

some people don't think kerri butler has a sop voice but haven't you heard the end of "I'll always live inside your heart" from batboy.

most broadway performers can do various roles and vocal styles. if they can't and they are stuck in one frame of singing they won't go very far unless they are signature like ethel, carol, mary, julie andrews.

I think Alice is an inspired choice, actually, and she certainly has the vocal and acting chops. Anyone who saw her in SS, or play the mom in Tommy (I saw her go on as standby)knows she can comand the stage. A clone of Chenoweth? No. (Perhaps only Megan Mullaly, whose W&G Karen line readings have been appropriated for Glinda, would closely mirror La C's). Yeah, she's 40 ... but remember, Glinda is an adult through at least half of the show, not a college girl as she is in the start. Plus, Chenoweth herself is 35. This show needn't be cast with 20-somethings to work.

I have not seen Alice Ripley in any of her musical performances, but I did see her in FIVE FLIGHTS, and she was an absolute riot. I was hoping the play would move to Broadway because it was one of the most entertaining productions I've seen in the past year.

As for WICKED, I wouldn't wish that on Ripley. I wouldn't wish this production of LITTLE SHOP on her either.

I agree, what's wrong with Bundy? And did no one see the picture I linked of Ripley from some photo-op last week on Broadway.com? She's way too old for any roles under 35 now. Meanwhile I see you're all mentioning the same three tired suggestions, over and over again. Butler can barely sing the POP she's required to sing in LS, how on earth do you expect her to do high, operatic soprano stylings? Let's see, how about some other wildly, wrong casting suggestions for Glinda? Heather Headly, Lillias White, Susan Egan,Emily Skinner, Orfeh, Taylor Dayne,Daphne rubin Vega,(a RENT reunion) Deborah Cox...etc. Actually, I think some of my (purposely) outlandish ideas make much more sense than the ones previously listed.

Alice would have to squeeze WICKED between her upcoming All My Children appearances re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: What About Alice Ripley as Kristen' Not sure I could really picture her in the role, and after watching Kerry's acting in Little Shop? I wouldn't dream of casting her in it - even though her voice is amazing.

I'm with Al. Some of the suggestions are pretty funny so far....But Al? The though of Lillias White as Galinda made me laugh out loud. Thanks for that!

Yes, this is from TV Guide online:

"Rock singer Alice Ripley has joined the cast of All My Children in the recurring role of Pearly, a Las Vegas showgirl Erica encounters during her travels in Sin City. A Tony nominee for her portrayal of conjoined twin Violet Hilton in Side Show, Ripley has also appeared on Broadway in The Who's Tommy, Sunset Boulevard and The Rocky Horror Show. She makes her splashy AMC debut May 17."

I love Alice - I may actually have to tune in and catch her, even though I haven't watched AMC in about 15 years.
