nine revival, Gypsy with bernadette peters

edit: oooh, I forgot the last five years. I totally recommend it, the songs are amazing, and they rhyme perfectly. It's norbert and Sherie Rene Scott, it is so good!

Jesus Christ Superstar, Aida, POTO (Cdn highlights or movie soundtrack), Avenue Q. Boy From Oz is good because the cast is strong, but I'm not a fan of the songs.

And it's a cast recording, not a soundtrack. re: What Broadway CD should i buy...need suggestions!?

AIDA, Taboo, Tick, Tick... BOOM!, The Last 5 Years, POTO movie soundtrack.

And, if you're looking for something Broadway-related but not a show, check out Adam Pascal's solo work. I'm just shamelessly plugging....

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA: All the way! (The OLCR with Michael Crawford or the highlights with Michael Heath or the OMPS with Gerard Butler)
LES MISERABLES: 50th Anniversary C.D. (don't buy the Broadway version...the Javert SUCKS!...sounds like some Indian guy with a heavy Indian accent!)

Back, he spurred like a madman, shrieking a curse to the sky. With the white road smoking behind him and his rapier brandished high! Blood-red were the spurs i' the golden noon; wine-red was his velvet coat, when they shot him down on the highway, down like a dog on the highway, and he lay in his blood on the highway, with the bunch of lace at his throat... I'm a big RENT fan and I also enjoy

* the Last 5 Years (A must have!)
* Tick Tick Boom (Also by Jonathan Larson)
* Wicked
* Les Miserables
* Songs For A New World
* Avenue Q

And from there, see where it takes you. Other posts cover classics that are essential but for me these CDs served as gateways to everything else (and remain my favorites).

Taboo is wonderful as well, especially if you're into the Rock operas. Thoroughly Modern Millie is delightful. There are so many others I'm neglecting so I'm gonna stop here.

Side Note- I can't find A New Brain anywhere, and really don't want to buy it online. I tried ordering it through different stores and they said it was out of print... re: What Broadway CD should i buy...need suggestions!? Where did you all get yours?

Cabaret is a must as i think Hairspray is as well. I am listening to it now and it is really catchy!

edit: you should also pick up Hair and YAGMCB, the revival!

"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.'
