What Ever Happened to Bock and Harnick?

I've been wondering about this recently. I've heard that for many years the two didn't speak to each other (after finishing the musical The Rothschilds), but I've never heard why or what happened. Neither of them were very old and Bock lived until a few years ago. Does anyone have the dirt on what went wrong between the two?

I believe their break came about over the firing of THE ROTHSCHILD's director. Derek Goldby was originally hired to direct the show. During out-of-town tryouts, he was replaced by Michael Kidd. One of them agreed Goldby should be replaced and the other was highly against his dismissal. It seems they both envisioned the show differently. It led to a break in their collaboration which was truly a sad day for us.

The show is being imagined as "Rothschild & Sons" off Broadway with Cuccioli starring as Meyer

It starts in October for about a 1 month run. Saw the original with Hal Linden in the title role. 2 standouts in the score are "He Tossed A Coin" & "In My Own Lifetime".

Bob Cuccioli was Nathan in the 1990 Off-Broadway revival with Mike Burstyn as Meyer.
