Does anyone know what Mary Alice is up to these days? She hasn't acted on film or television since 2005 and hasn't appeared on stage since 1995.
She's so luminous a presence that I hope she's well! It would be a real privilege to get to see her in something again.

She died at the beginning of Desperate Housewives.
Her performance in Fences remains one of the best I've ever seen on any stage.
I went back to see the show because of her. I couldn't believe she was doing what she was doing.
It reminded me of all the comments I'd ever heard about Laurette Taylor, where people said, "she didn't seem like an actress, she seemed like a person who just wanted off the street as the character."
It was the difference between acting and being, and once you've seen somebody do that, you'll never mistake the two again. Her big "moment" in Act 2 grew so naturally out of what she was saying and how she was feeling that the power of it snuck up on me. Suddenly, she was in a rage, and even after seeing it twice, I couldn't figure out how she was able to make it seem so real. There was nothing "theatrical" about it. But there was a character, a person on stage, living her life.
I actually saw her last week! I was walking the dog and saw her sitting outside on 43rd St and almost pooped myself. She looked great so I hope I get to see her onstage at some point!!
