It only ran for 1 performance? It looked like they had a great cast including Audra, Norm Lewis and Heather Headley, so what happened?
It was a one night only Actor's Fund benefit concert, not a revival. Updated On: 6/30/13 at 10:51 AM

Oh. I seem to have been gotten misinformation. Nevermind. Okay so do you think its time for a revival of Dreamgirls?
Did you hear Heather Headley's version of "Ain't No Party?"
If you had then you wouldn't be asking why they never ran. Besides the fact that it was a one night only engagement, that rendition was horrendous.
I was looking forward to catching Dreamgirls at the Wolf Trap in August, but looks like it got canceled.
The 2009 tour was not selling too well, and if I remember correctly, closed a few weeks earlier than expected. A tour in the late '90s was also "Broadway bound" and never made it. Who knows when it will be back.

Her performance is rather unfortunate. I wonder if it was just out of her range or if her voice was just shot? Billy Porter's voice was apparently pretty rough during the performance so he went into a studio after the concert and was able to rerecord much of his material. I wonder why they didn't have Headley do the same?
It is a miracle we even have this recording to enjoy. This performance was just a couple weeks after the 911 tragedy.
