I think of Sondheim as Broadways version of Stanley Kubrick
Will he ever do a fluff piece again like Forum?

Sondheim is in his 80s and completely loaded. He's not writing any more musicals.
Wrong. He had a new musical what, two years ago (yes, late 70's, SO different from 80) and has said he's still writing.
Well, he did Road Show, BUT that had been in and out of try-outs, workshops, readings, re-writes and title changes since the early 90's.
He wrote a lot of new material for The Frogs in 2004. Then some additional stuff, including a new song for Sondheim on Sondheim.
I have no idea what he's really doing now, but I feel like he has one more fluff show left in him. If we didn't have 12 Sondheim revivals every year, he wouldn't have to go back and waste time updating the scores as he likes to do...
Revivals of great works are totally a waste of time. God, how awful.
(Being serious for a moment, am I remembering incorrectly that at some point he said he'd like to see all of his shows revived in his lifetime?)
Of course they aren't. But did we REALLY need another Gypsy revival, for example.
I'm just saying that I would much rather see a NEW Sondheim show, while he's still living. His work will always be around to revive.
Eh. Gypsy might have been sort of excessive in such a short period, but generally speaking, I can't see it as something to complain about.
I understand. I never complain about ANY show coming to Broadway. Revival or new. I thought that production was alright, I wasn't amazed, like others. But my point is, is that I would love to see him write new show before a revival.

Why is somebody named Overkill complaining about revival frequency?
It wasn't just another Gypsy revival. It was THE Gypsy revival by virtue of the presence of Patti and Tony and Laura.
I wasn't as impressed as others, but then I'm not a big Patti fan. But that's just my opinion.

Years ago , a magazine called Cinefantastique , said he was adapting the movie DREAMCHILD as a musical. I would have loved to have seen that. The movie is perfect for him.
...and Groundhog's Day. What a challenge that would be.

Groundhog Day would make a great musical and I think Sondheim would do it justice. Surprised it's not been done yet.
But wouldn't the repetition in that concept be more suited to Lloyd Webber?
Sondheim said that although he liked the idea of Groundhog Day, he wouldn't do it justice and one of the younger, pop influenced composers should try to do it.
Dreamchild would be AMAZING.
I think he should write a few tunes for GLEE.
I'm sure they would be glad to have him and a whole new generation could get to know his wit and wisdom.
^ I'd actually like to see him write something else for TV, if for no other reason so that he can win an Emmy and join the ranks of the EGOT-ers.
I'd love an all-original Sondheim episode of Glee.

Road Show hardly counts as new musical. I regard Sondheim as a god of the musical theatre, but he is getting up there in years. I don't think he will have another new piece. He really isn't looking too healthy either, and he cancels a lot of engagements due to his health. Sadly, I think the answer to the question is a pine box.

First you're another sloe-eyed vamp
Then you're a mutha
Then you're camp
So by his own reckoning, by now he should have written "Priscilla Queen of the Desert"
I'd love an all-original Sondheim episode of Glee.
Considering Glee hasn't done an original song, let alone an original show, I doubt the first one they'd do would be Sondheim :)
What is next for Sondheim?
Another night of watching GLEE *wink* *wink* with his grandson .. ehh..boyfriend.
Saw him speak last night at Lafayette College in PA. He told the audience that he is not writing music at all at the moment, as he is working on completing Look I Made a Hat, the second half of Finishing the Hat. He denied having any current projects other than this.
