I've never seen the show and I've heard it was absolutely awful. Just wondering what it was that made it such a flop. Was it the book? I'm asking because I will be seeing previews of a play by the same author (Richard Dresser) called "Rounding Third" at the Martha's Vineyard Playhouse, tomorrow.

Some say it was the book, some say it was the concept. I for one think that the songs could have been tied together with a much more solid plot.
Also, the lack of scenery for the second act was ind of disappointing. Just that plexiglass wave...
I'd say No Concept
and Like Bad Book, Dude,
Bad Director Choice
Bad set
etc. etc. etc.

Although I had a lot of fun at the show, it really was bad direction/set as well as book/concept. I had fun though. I think because they threw some beach balls in the audience and played catch with us, lol. And we were able to keep them at the end. Even though I didnt get one.
I was a big fan of this show...but I knew how much it sucked at the same time. I was recently able to read a script from before previews even started, and there were MANY cuts in lines, etc...and those cuts were smart choices.

I have to admit I did find the show fun, and was upset when they closed, but honestly it was far from a good show. What I found to be the biggest problem was the book. Not just a weak plot, which wouldnt bother me that much, but the dialogue made no sense. They would just say random lines to introduce the next song, there was no flow.
It was a rush job. They were in too big of a hurry to get it up on Broadway and having an incompetent director didn't help matters either.
Surfboards and Broadway don't mix.
It was a theme park review not a Broadway show. I expected them to say at the end 'Thanks for coming and we'll be back in 45 minutes for the next show.'

haha :)
did they really play beach ball with the audience? fun stuff!!!!!!!!!!
i thought it was a lot of fun...the acting was pretty good i thought...i would choose seeing GV before seeing many other bway shows that r still open. Kate Renders was very good in it...and yes...even though it wasn't good...it was fun! and they played with the beach ball with the audience...people were lovin it!

do they just like stop the show, and start playing it? or is it like during a certain song (which song)?
it would of been cool to see it, sorta, i guess- was it better or worse than mamma-mia?
My name is Eddie Varley and I liked GOOD VIBRATIONS!
I'm sure there were more than one opportunity for the throwing of a beach ball. Sadly.
Weird. I read good reviews for "Rounding Third." I'll find out tonight.
they played with the beach balls after the show was over!
When I saw it it was fun and energetic but it was lacking majorly in the book, even though there was a great number, I think it was sailing or something, that was pretty cool. I had fun but it was nothing more than a really good high school production to me.

The book was unfocused, the singing (esp. the tight harmonies) was dreadfully off pitch, the execution was slopply, it wasn't ready to open (even for previews). I felt very sorry for young, talented cast. It could have been like Grease. It wasn't.
