I still think that if they made an Into the Woods movie, Tim Burton could do wonders with it. I thought Sweeney Todd was amazing. (Not sure if I'm in the minority, but oh well!)

In accordance to a Drowsy movie, I posted a potential cast list for a movie version a long tome ago, though I do thkn Robin Williams would make a great Aldopho.

COMPANY

Bobby: Patrick Dempsey
Joanne: Anjelica Huston
Amy: Christina Applegate
Marta: Zooey Deschanel
April: Rachel McAdams

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Avenue Q has the potential have making a great film. Someone along the lines of John Krasinski could make a great Princeton and Seth Rogen would be a great Brian. Not sure about Kate, Luck, Gary and Christmas Eve though.

omg, somethingwicked's company cast is awesome
I love Zooey, she would make an awesome Marta, and I love her voice

As for the Bat Boy thing, I thought John Landis would've made a pretty good adaptation out of it, but the film died in pre-production. Either way I don't think Burton is the right kind of weird for the story, and Depp is WAAAYYYY too old to play Bat BOY.
How about-
Edgar/Bat Boy: Elijah Wood (if he could sing)
Shelly: Evan Rachel Wood
Meredith: Ana Gasteyer
Dr. Parker: Will Arnett/Robert Downy Jr.
Rev. Hightower: Cedric the Entertainer
Mayor Maggie: Lea DeLaria
Mrs. Taylor: Charles Busch (a guy can dream)
Pan: big A list cameo no one sees coming

years ago on the Into the Woods IMDB board I came up with, IMHO, an awesome cast list for a film adaptation, I think it was
Director: Burton
Witch: Bernadette
Baker: Mathew Broderick
Wife: Helena Bonham Carter
Cinderella*: Zooey Deschanel
Stepsisters: Mary Catherine Garisson & Missi Pyle
Stepmother: Catherine O'Hara/Miranda Richardson/Meryl Streep
Jack: Freddie Highmore
Jack's Mother: Rachel Dratch/Tracy Ullman
Red: Daveigh Chase
Granny*: Eileen Essel
Wolf/Cinderella's Prince*: Johnny Depp
Rapunzel: Cheno
Rapunzel's Prince: Jude Law
Cinderella's Father: Albert Finney
Steward*: Timothy Spall
Giant: Matthew McGrory (before he passed away)
Giantess: Joanna Lumley
Mysterious Man: Christopher Lloyd
* this wasn't who I had initially

I'd also LOVELOVELOVE to see another film version of Cabaret more in line with the Mendes Revival
Emcee: Alan
Sally: Catherine Zeta Jones
Kost: Ana Gasteyer
Ludwig: James Marsden
Shultz: Joel Grey
Schneider: Elaine Stritch

"If artists were machines, then I'm just a different kind of machine...I'd probably be a toaster. Actually, I'd be a toaster oven because they're more versatile. And I like making grilled cheese" -Regina Spektor

"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl

you're all acting like these Hollywood people can all sing?

THEY CAN'T.

and please... if Urinetown, one of the most brilliant musicals ever, is made into a movie then I will puke!!

they would never do that. Urinetown works on stage. not on film. it's theatrical humor. just. no. never. ever. don't even. suggest. it. ew.

How I'd love for Avenue Q to become a film - but I know it couldn't transfer to screen well unless some genius came along and could bring it to life *sigh*. And I doubt it would appeal to a wide audience. But I like Malice's ideas for casting :)

I personally would love to see some of Sondheim's works - all of which have already been brought up.

I LOVE how adamgreer thinks that Christina Aguilera should be cast in a movie version of Wicked.

Rant, Wickud, Rant, Wickud, Rant! We're not gonna pay Rant! 'Cause everythink is Wickud!

lakezurich will be played by Paul Groves in the BWW musical

Oh yeah, Sarah Silverman as Little Sally is quite possibly the best thing in this thread.

And I think I originally had Sarah Jessica Parker as Rapunzel in ITW, but she wouldn't really be able to sing the role like Cheno could.

LOL.

I think most of us should stick to discussing Broadway, not Hollywood.

Hollywod is an entirely different monster.

Hmmm...How about Aida? I know they are making a movie in 2010?
Here's my line up

Aida: Carla J. Hargrove or DeQuina Moore (luv them)
Radames:...hm...I think we can keep Adam Pascal?
Amneris: Idina Menzel!!!
Zoser: John Hickok. For sure,
Mereb: Damian Perkins! No one can beat his "How I Know You"
Nehebka: totally Tracie Thoms
Armonasro?: James Earl Jones or something
Pharaoh: ????

Not very good but...I like it! This or OBC! Luv them both!

would love Into the Woods with:
Witch:Bernadette OR Lupone
Cinderalla's Prince: Matt Morrison
Cinderella: Possibly Lea Michele or Sierra Boggess. I think Kelli O'Hara might look too old on screen. Maybe Amy Adams
Rapunzel OR Bakers Wife: Lauren Kennedy (I know she could sing wife but I dont know if she is quirky enough) If She was wife, then Cheno as Rapunzel (though I think she deserves a bigger role)
Stepsisters: Zooey Deschanel, Lea or Sierra (whoever wasnt Cinderella)
Stepmother: Sherie Rene Scott
Rapunzel's Prince: Zac Efron (would get all the fangirls to watch)
all i could think of off top of my head...

And a THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE musical movie with sutton.

Steamheat, that makes no sense. where are the Hollywood people in that cast? It's all Broadway...

no1foster, they're already lining up Christina Aguleria (Amneris) and Beyonce (Aida) for the movie. Rumored talks of Nick Lachey or Justin Timberlake as Radames.

I've also heard some really new crazy rumors, from an L.A. friend, that they are looking at Robert Downey Jr. for Chief Zoser! can he actually sing?

A Wicked movie WILL be made.

They'll cast Elphaba as an "unkown" and cast a superstar in one of the other roles like Glinda and Fyerro (or both).

An obvious choice for Glinda, in my book, is Reese Witherspoon. Perhaps?

(P.S. I think Eden is the perfect candidate for Elphaba... she's done it on stage but is still an "unknown" to the rest of the world...)

TooDarnHot:
Not all are broadway but most are...one can dream. It would never happen with that casting in reality..
Hollywood people mentioned are: Zooey, Amy, Zac, Cheno (to some extent), Bernadette (to some extent)
Could make stepsisters and many other smaller roles, such as Jack's mother, hollywood celebrities..
Also for Jack, maybe the kid that originally played Flounder (before they determined him too tall/old)

BatBoy was going to be made into a movie. It was supposed to come out in 2009. But the canceled production about a year ago re: What Musicals are Left to Be Made into Movies?
