Shows that need to be revived (because this thing is confusing:)
Funny Girl
A Chorus Line
Brigadoon
Blood Brothers
Sunday in the Park With George
Follies...yes, something actually good this time
morosco i have to disagree with you. yes, the plot is racy but to consider it offensive would be to consider it's source material (in this case, the 1961 Billy Wilder classic "The Apartment") offensive as well. and it's sad but true but situations like the ones presneted in "the apartment" and "promises, promises" existed back then and to some degree still exist today. after all sex is still a powerful thing.
I think if it's approached correctly it can be done and be succesful. i was fortunate enough to see the 1997 Encores concert revival starring Martin Short and the audience ATE IT UP.
Reprise! concert series in LA also revived it the same year starring Jason Alexander and it was so succesful they did the whole run of the show TWICE in the same season.
I think in the hands of a capable director and/or choreographer the show could be succesfully revived without any problems.
and that bacharach/david score is one of a kind.

Maybe you're right Marquis. Maybe I'm over-reacting. Interestingly enough, it's one of my favorite scores.
you gotta love that overture! "knowing when to leave", "i'll never fall in love again", "whoever you are, i love you", "wanting things"....great songs.
but i digress i don;t want to turn this into a "promises" thread. i'm just gonna pop in the cd and enjoy this, it's been awhile.
never heard of it....

Pippin, maybe
must check it out.
Funny Girl with Sarah Jessica Parker as Fannie.

Interesting thought, Sarah Jessica. While it sorta makes sense on the surface and she could likely act the part well, a 40 year old Fanny who can't hit either the high notes or the low notes in the score (Parker's voice is neither strong, pretty, or rangy -- at least not anymore if it ever was) would probably cause people to run screaming out of the theatre......
SWEENEY TODD
SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE
COMPANY
ANYONE CAN WHISTLE (starring Bernadette Peters as Fay Apple)
I think she might be good. Or Steph Block.
Well, if we are dreaming of revivals, then I have a few I'd like to see done some day....
The Wiz (I know this is "supposedly" going to be revived soon but I'll believe it when I have tickets for opening night to it)
Dreamgirls (when it's back, I'll be happy)
Mame (ok, maybe a revival of this would not exactly be a sellout but maybe Seth R. and Co. should think about doing a concert of it with a different Auntie Mame for each song... I mean, he could have Lillias sing "If He Walked Into My Life)
A Chorus Line (either get the ole warhorse back on the boards or let someone drastically revise it... or just let someone rejuvinate it)
Pippin (Love the show, love the score, love Jerry Mitchell who should finally direct adnd choreograph a show... namely this one)
Zach.... ahh, nothing like a few drunken writings after seeing some bad drag

I would like to see a revival of APPLAUSE. It was done on the road awhile back with Stefanie Powers as Margo Channing but it was not successful. I think Dee Hoty would be good as Margo.
I would love to see them open up a production of Chess again. But using the London version. I know there are issues with that, but I would still LOVE to see it!!

CRY FOR US ALL -- from the same team that wrote MAN OF LA MANCHA, based on the play Hogan's Goat. It was written for Joan Didion and has one of the most heartfelt scores you'll hear in this lifetime. It opened against blockbuster competition and died a quick death, but it's still a gorgeous piece of work.
I would love to see a revival of "The Apple Tree". And "Sweeney Todd" is more than overdue for a revival.
Im disapointed that there werent fun recordings of the multiple casts of the Cabaret Revival (like there were for GREASE). Who wouldnt love a copy or Neil and Deborah? Or Stamos. Susan Egan. C'mon.... MAYBE even Brooke Shields. They should just all get together and record the songs. Leave Jon Secada out though.

The Apple Tree will be staged by Encores in the Spring starring Kristin Chenoweth.
Mame will likely be back in the next season or two (according to Herman)
Whenever Dreamgirls and A Chorus Line comeback (likely to be sometime in the next couple of seasons) look for both to be close to exact replicas of the original Bennett staging. Bennett's estate is run by his lawyer John Breglio (a Bennett friend and a powerful entertainment attorney) and Bob Avian (Bennett's lifelong friend and the co-choreographer of A Chorus Line among other shows). They are both INCREDIBLY protective of Bennett's work, so there won't be any radical re-interpretations of either show whenever they get revived (though Avian may tweak ACL, as would be his right as part of the original creative team).

::sigh::
There are so many people from Cabaret that I wish they had made a recording of...
If you're talking about re-recording, I wish Carly Jibson would be recorded for Hairspray. The girl has a phenominal voice and her "Good Morning Baltimore" definitely captures the period sound of the 60s.
Personally, I feel all shows should be recorded for posterity. I wish there were OBC recordings of Stardust and I Remember Mama.

Yeston/Kopit Phantom - Richard White or Marc Kudisch in the title role
Sunday in the Park with George
Pajama Game - with um, a better script...heh. Ms. Marshall, are you listening?
and Dammit, it's high time we had a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta on Broadway, no? My vote: The Mikado, cuz it's hard to screw it up. Even for us loosey-goosey Americans who don't get stiff British humor.
South Pacific. It's the only one of the R&H hits to never have a Broadway revival, and I think it's overdue. (It's also my personal favorite R&H show).
I agree with everyone about Promises, Promises. The Encores production was thrilling.
