Company!! Sunday in the Park is not a good first listen. Granted, I love the show, but it takes a while to get it.  
 
And Broadwaynoitall-- you're not such a Know-it-all. I haven't met one musical theater lover and/or major at a university who doesn't at least appreciate Sondheim.

Cuz hip hop and ballet have anything in common except that they're dancing? Knowing Sondheim would help anyone with auditioning for a musical, though it's true many auditions frown on using his music (I had a hard time when live Alone and Like It--an easy tune I thought--was my audition piece, and no audition pianists could play it....) It's more akin to knowing Petipa's ballets and auditioning for Giselle... You still gain so much from the knowledge.
