What actor/actress was so good that they made you cry?

Ok, so i've pinched this from the Broadway board but is quite a good topic to bring up.

For me personally, Scarlett Strallen made me cry in Mary Poppins and even when thinking about it, i could be reduced to tears!!! Also, even though i havent seen Wicked on stage yet, watching Idina Menzel sing For Good in Wicked with Kristin Chenoweth made me fill up! God knows what i am going to be like in Idina's presence, haha!

The actress who played Julie in Hal Prince's revival of SHOW BOAT in London in 1997. Her performance of the song "Bill" got me in tears. And it still is the only time I've seen the audience give an actor a standing ovation DURING THE SHOW!!

Also Peter Karrie as The Phantom in THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, UK-tour in 2000. He was so amazing that in the final scene I was crying my eyes out.

Scarlett Strallen was fantastic as Mary Poppins, but I always want to cry during every show because I find it hard to believe I'm actually watching something so amazing done by such wonderful people!
Yes, I know it sounds stupid.

It doesnt sound stupid at all dramaparoxysm23, most of the time i feel exactly the same. We'll have to see whether Mary Poppins will still be getting such an outstanding response when the cast change kicks in and Scarlett leaves re: What actor/actress was so good that they made you cry?

I have become teary during Mary Poppins...tears of sentiment. The film was a childhood favorite, and certain songs just get me -- right there.

As for my answer to the question -- John Owen Jones. Both as the Phantom (saw his final performance, and his lair scene had me in tears) and as Valjean. Oh, and I got a bit weepy at the end of his performance in ShowBoat as well...

John Owen Jones - Phantom
Linzi - I'm just happy to see her onstage!
Ruthie - her too... esp in Les Mis
The Billys - they're just fxxking amazing!
Jenna Russell - Sunday... but it's mostly of her character

Ok, so I just got back from London 2 days ago. We saw Blood Brothers and The Producers.

The Producers was what I expected.

But!

Blood Brothers was not. The only thing I'll say about the music was that it was a cross between Legends of the Hidden Temple the musical and a bad Andrew Lloyd Webber filled Nightmere with a sprinkle of CATS! in techno remix.

The acting though, simply incredible. Antony Costa...DAMN SON. He was amazing. He made me cry full force. And the girl who played Linda, I'm blanking on her name. But she was great as well.

Sutton Foster makes me cry in everything she does. She could just walk on stage and I'd start crying. But when I saw Little Women I was in hysterics.

MARY POPPINS makes me cry every time..I just dont want her to go away!! But the ultimate tear jerker for me has to be Blood Brothers...in the second act when Linda and Mickey argue about "the pills" always gets me going!! and I have to say the best Mrs J I have seen is Lyn Paul!!

And Hugh Jackman singing I still Call Australia home...those 4 actors/actresses get me so easily

The whole cast during 'Circle of Life' - the openeing is so amazing.

And (I'll probably get booed off the boared for this but....) Jon Lee as Marius. I saw him in it a few years ago and it's the first time I cried at 'Empty Chairs'. I thought he was great and far better than expected.

Claire - I know what you mean about Circle of Life! It's just...so incredibly breathtaking. (I literally had to remind myself to inhale.)
