What are the chances of another Papermill show transferring to Broadway?

With the recent discussion of Christine Baranski's MAME at the Kennedy Center possibly transferring to Broadway, I got to thinking.

The Papermill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ is doing HELLO, DOLLY as part of their season this year. If it has an amazing cast, what are the chances that this show could make the jump to Broadway?

I know Herman wants revivals of his three big shows...and I believe I heard that MAME was next...which makes me think that this DOLLY might not be able to transfer...plus the Kennedy Center MAME is more high-profile. But, if that MAME doesn't transfer...could Herman turn to DOLLY first and leave MAME as the third project?

No one yet, the show opens June 7th.

Unless I missed something, ask again in May.

I think he's just wondering about the general possibility of a transfer.

They talked about transferring their BABY to New York, too, but that fell through. Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh.

Herman also has a production of THE GRAND TOUR (I believe) opening at a little Equity House in Los Angeles and it's reported that he's even writing new material for their production. Maybe that's one of the things that he wants to revive as well.

In more than 70 years of its existence, only two Paper Mill productions have moved to Broadway: the '80s revival of You Can't Take It With You, and the recent revival of I'm Not Rappaport. There have been some near misses, but for some reason, the theatre has been somewhat ill-starred in getting their shows to Broadway.

There have been a bunch that just didn't work out. I know their production of Showboat was supposed and their Funny Girl with Leslie Kritzer. I don't know how likely it is anymore. They changed their artistic director a few years ago and after New Jersey limited arts funding, it has not been the same.

IMHO, I don't see much of a chance of a DOLLY revival on Broadway. There was a Carol Channing production back in 95 that came and went rather quickly. Plus, and correct me if I'm wrong, is there anyone out there who HASN'T seen HELLO, DOLLY? I dearly love the show, but with so much of Broadway's revenue now coming from tourists, there has to be a compelling reason for someone from Des Moines to want to see the show. Plus, it's no secret that revivals haven't done very well lately. OKLAHOMA!, FLOWER DRUM SONG, and 42nd STREET all lost money and FIDDLER is hanging on by a thread, only surviving, as some would argue, by resorting to stunt-casting.
