of Evita, the movie? Was he happy with how it turned out?
And what about the upcoming Phantom of the Opera...has he ever declared his feelings about either?

As far as Phantom goes I'd imagine he's fine with it. He co-wrote the screenplay...

With Phantom, he is the producer so he has complete control over it. With Evita, he had no part in the filming of it.

I saw the tour in Wisconsin back in May and I was talking with one of the ladies at the souvenir table about some various POTO stuff and the movie came up. She told me that there were a few things he didn't like about it but it was too late to go back and refilm it so....My guess is overall he likes it but, like every person in the arts, there are things he think could have been done better once he saw the final product.

ALW did not like the way EVITA was filmed. He was O.K. with Madonna singing the role. I believe he had input in that.

As for the Phantom film his company made the film so I guess he is happy with it. From all the interviews I have heard so far he likes it and he is otu promoting it. He was on the set a lot for the filming. The leads had to audition for him. He bought back the rights so he could control the filming. I have not heard he is unhappy with it. But I have never seen any one in the arts happy with anything they work on. they always see things they feel they should have done differently.

Yours,

Carolyn

So what about him not liking the way EVITA was filmed? In what way? Thanks!

I think it was that the producers of Evita didn't want him participating because he was Broadway-stuff or whatever. ALW also made the mistake of selling the rights to the studio so he really couldn't do anything about it.

At least, that's what I remember to have happened. But my memory isn't always 100% accurate.

Whatever the case, Andy's going to be ONE rich man this year!
Woman in White is selling like hotcakes, and Phantom will blow the box office on its edge! Think of the $$$$$

Since he is a true patron of musical theatre and rechannels part of his fortune to its promotion, I wouldn't begrudge him any of the $$$$$ coming to him from his works re: What did ALloydWebber think...

CYE, okay? No one's seen the film in its finished state. It could very well be a disaster waiting to happen. I mean, I'm hopeful it'll be as successful a transition as CHICAGO was to the screen, but there was also the film version of ALNM which was directed by Prince himself.

Sean, I think PHANTOM will do remarkable box office business. The name "PHANTOM OF THE OPERA" alone is enough to ensure that.

CYE: curb your enthusiasm.

And I prefer to wait and see, folks. Names dont guarantee anything -- case in point, Diana Ross and THE WIZ.

Sean, people have seen the film. It is being privately screened around the world as we talk. I will be seeing it in a couple of weeks.

From those I know have seen it they liked it. I will wait until I see the film to make a judgement of my own.

As for ALW he is more concerned how people will like the film now that it is finished, than what he thinks of it.

I hope it will do well, as I would love to see more movie musicals. I think if "Phantom" can do it then we will see even more musicals on film. I grew up with movei musicals and want to see them on the big screen again for those taht cannot go to the theatre and see a quality Broadway-style production.

Yours,

Carolyn

Dont misunderstand; I'm hoping it'll do well as well. I really do hope it's Oscar calibre. But having been disappointed by big screen adaptations of what seemed like foolproof properties in the past, I'm being a little more cautious with this one. Face it: if it works, it'll work big time. If it flops, it'll flop big time. I dont see much middle ground for it.
