I was wondering, when Beauty and the Beast closes, what will they do with all of the stage props and costumes? Are they ever sold or auctioned off? I think it would be wonderful to have something from the show.

might be put in storage. I think shows burn the sets after the last performance.

Posted: 5/7/07 at 9:01amSince Beauty is done regionally a lot now, the props would be very valuable to rent. I would suspect Disney might sell them as a set to another company who would then rent them out.

Posted: 5/7/07 at 9:02amI know there is a least one company that will buy sets and rent them out to hs and community theater groups. A local hs rented beautiful sets for Peter Pan.

Posted: 5/7/07 at 9:20amWhile they might do the rent out thing, as pricey as Disney will want, it won't be worth the cost of upkeep. More than likely, like "Cats" did, they'll have an auction for BC/EFA.

Posted: 5/7/07 at 11:18amI am not sure if Disney would rent props. I know costume wise you need to have your own design. When the Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia did it, they had a huge article on how they had to come up with their own concpets and were given no help from Disney.

Posted: 5/7/07 at 11:22amScenery may be sold/rented, but only to community and school groups. The set builders and painters' unions prohibit re-using Broadway scenery in professional productions, since that would take work away from them.

Scenery may be sold/rented, but only to community and school groups. The set builders and painters' unions prohibit re-using Broadway scenery in professional productions, since that would take work away from them.
Which means most high school and community theatre stages won't fit the set.
