I bring my Blackberry and post! Then I text my friends so they know how jealous they should be.
Then I nap.

Get drunk and have sex with the others waiting in line (take a blanket for some privacy, though).
If this doesn't pan-out...there's always those make-out sessions.

I usually just read or listen to my iPod when I rush alone.

iPod ftw. I usually have a book on me too, so if it turns out to be a reeeeeally long wait, I'll have a bit of a read as well. ^_^

When i'm with friends, i bring newspapers, and lay out on the sidewalk for a nap. It's not classy, but I've been at rush lines at 5am before to make sure I get my tickets. But Yeah when you with friends it's so much more fun. Once we played a game to see who could find the raunchiest personal ad in some newspaper.
When i'm by myself I write poetry, read a book, listen to music, or pretend to do sudoku so the people behind me will think I'm smart.

I usually read whatever comic book I bring with me and listen to my iPod and when it gets close to the time to get the tickets, I put those away and talk with people.
I had this thought a couple of weeks ago that if you had a laptop or a portable dvd player what you could do is bring that and just watch a TV show or a movie for the time being, but then you're stuck carrying it around with you all day.

Listen to my iPod, read a book, strike up a conversation with some bright young hopeful and then say, "Look at me, 25 years later, I had dreams once too but decided I wanted to eat, just get a job in IT." and dash their hopes against a rock.
Sometimes I actually do homework just so they'll know the old guy (43) is really a student (again) and not just waiting for them to finish their soda so he can collect the nickel deposit. Most of the time, though, I'm just wishing the line would move because it's been three hours standing there and I really need to find a men's room!

Usually I listen to my iPod. The one time I camped out overnight, we passed the time by playing Friends trivia and singing.
Then there was the time I was waiting with my friend and he suggested we play the people-watching game "Gay, Straight, or European?"

Posted: 6/15/07 at 7:53pmRush lines are actually my FAVORITE part about New York. I rush for almost every show I see, and I always see shows alone. But I always meet the coolest people in those lines and often keep in touch with them. If you don't cut yourself off from others with things like ipods and start a conversation instead, the wait actually goes really quickly. Plus, it means that when you actually see the show, you're actually sitting with people you know in a way. I've found that people in rush lines are extremely nice and down to earth...who else would be willing to wait in crazy conditions!

Posted: 6/15/07 at 8:59pmi usually have a book or sudoku, maybe some head phones but i rarely use them. i tend to do rush lines with other people or start chatting with people on the line. i agree, having company is really what makes the time go the fastest.
