I'm going to New York tomorrow and I have a bit of a problem making decisions with this kind of thing. Can anyone offer some advice as to what is the best show right now on Broadway?
Well based on what you've seen I'd go with Xanadu. However if you're looking for a real treat, go see Sunday in the Park with George. If you can get good tickets (almost impossible now though) I'd go see South Pacific. If you don't want to see any of those, I'd suggest the equally wonderful Gypsy.
"Light the candles! Get the ice out! Roll the rug up, it's today!"
'A Catered Affair' 'August Osage County' -difficult to choose!
A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!''
Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'
No offense, but how can you get an answer to this question? Best to whom? You only need to read through this site for ten minutes to find that there is not a single show that everyone loves or everyone hates.
I understand that. I'm asking everyone's opinion what is their favorite so I can get some suggestions as to what to see. My question's not "What is the best?", it's "What do YOU think's the best?".
Considering, direction, set decoration, lighting, sound, orchestrations and strong ensemble cast, South Pacific, by far the best produced show I've ever seen.
Considering an individual performance: Gypsy for Patti, Sunday in the Park for Video Effects and Lead Actor, and for lead female actress in a play, August: Osage County
AUGUST OSAGE COUNTY. A vastly entertaining play of great intelligence and humor, in a flawless production with a perfect cast. As close to perfect as you're going to see on Broadway.
It hits a level of excellence that other shows (the revival of SUNDAY IN THE PARK for one) just can't come near.
If you must see a musical, see ADDING MACHINE. A really interesting and daring musical, unlike that tired load of cliches PASSING STRANGE.
"If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don't have to worry about the answers." Thomas Pynchon, GRAVITY'S RAINBOW
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away." Philip K. Dick

I think the best show (meaning musical) on Broadway is PASSING STRANGE, but dont limit yourself on broadway..try off-broadway too...and its ADDING MACHINE.
For plays- Its AUGUST : OSAGE COUNTY- I like it, thought felt like its a bit "overrated", but surely its a good play. Its been awhile since we got a good American Play, that's why its a MUST SEE!
