I haven't seen the film version of Funny Girl.. I was in our school's production of it about 3 weeks ago (high school musical). I was in Act I Scene 14 as the *Ticket Seller* (Scene with Don't Rain on My Parade). Yeah, I know-it's a huge part. A total of 2 (Yeah-two) lines.

Hi musicalmjk, :)
I'm pretty sure about this. A CHORUS LINE has no Act One closing. The show is presented "straight-through" with no intermission.
Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Of the ones mentioned so far, I'd go with Dreamgirls - at least in the way Mr. Bennett staged it (and ESPECIALLY with Jennifer singing Effie!)
Another one I like a lot that I haven't seen mentioned is Crazy For You.

ONE DAY MORE! ( from Les Miserables)
- for sheer drama and heart-tugging moments, especially if you come from a country where something similar might have occured.
NOT THE BOY NEXT DOOR ( from The Boy from Oz)
- for sheer camp and joy in performing
CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG ( West End)
- who can resist the sight of the flying car and its band of happy occupants?

Hi DGrant, :)
Yes, DREAMGIRLS keeps on coming up again AND again in this thread!!!
I agree that the Act I closing was HEARTBREAKING and actually STRUCK A VERY POWERFUL EMOTIONAL CHORD.

Mary_Ethel - You'll find that there's a rather rabid group of us Dreamgirls fans here
Do a search on the title, you'll be surprised how much comes up - especially from people who got to see the original cast! (don't get Margo started on it
)

Howdy DGrant, :)
I did see the original production of DREAMGIRLS and was MESMERIZED.
The performances, the scoring, the staging with the towers, ALL MAGNICIENT.
Do you ever think there will ever be a DREAMGIRLS movie?

I'd vote for "Turkey Lurkey Time" from Promises, Promises... Act One ends on a note on poignancy for C.C. Baxter and then a Michael Bennett dance number to top all Michael Bennett dance numbers. Great stuff.

Mary - It certainly cries out to be filmed, but I'm not sure I would want to see it - the memories I have of that experience I may want to leave intact!
Magruder - I wish I had 1/10 of your background and awareness in this field

Magruder - my awareness of musical theatre is simply as an enthusiastic audience member (although, admittedly I've seen more than some have) - you obviously have a very solid academic understanding to back up your passion. My background is solely in staight plays - and pretty heavy on the classic side at that. A lot of the appreciation for the musical arena has come from partnering with a musician
