There was a rumor circulating during Joey that he and Mantello were an item. Were they? Are they still?
I felt really bad for him while watching the show. Poor guy has charisma and talent, but he certainly didn't have sufficient star quality to carry the role.
FYI, I define "star quality" as that thing that makes it impossible for an audience member to take their eyes off a performer, even if they aren't the center of attention. It's a totally subjective thing. I'm sure there are folks who think Risch does have it.

Posted: 4/28/10 at 10:50amTo be honest though, it is hard to have bigger star quality next to Stockard, who is an exceptional actress. Im not sure that Christian Hoff would have fared as well either. She was the one people were interested in seeing, even prior to Risch being cast. Yes Hoff won a Tony but he wasn't a name by any means. For me, and I know this isn't the popular belief, Risch had it. I loved his performance.

Posted: 4/28/10 at 1:41pmHe and Denis are so cute together. Not sure if they are still an item or not. I have to say that revival of Pal Joey was one of my all time favorite shows. I just loved it. Martha Plimpton stole just about everyone's thunder in the show. She was robbed of a Tony.

Why do threads like this always have to devolve into rehashing of OLD rumors and putdowns? Most fo which are not true anymore and never were true or haven't been true for a long time. It's just the same old bitchy sniping.

Incredibly hypocritical, coming from the person who a year ago trashed Karen Olivo at every opportunity. What's good for the goose has got to be good for the gander, you know.
