What is it that I'm not liking about the new La Vie Boheme?

Just got my cd and had to post...

I picked it up cause they FINALLY had it at FYE - I was in there last week adn the guy said all FYE stores had some kinda problem adn wouldn't be getting it in til this week...anyway I digress.

I had 3&1/2 hours to kill at the coffee shop next to the theatre before I was called to rehearsal, so I decided ot listen to it.

I literally cried through most of it, and had weird chills and more excitement and inspiration than I've felt in awhile.

I was sitting there, remembering the first time I'd heard the OBC...10 years ago. I slipped out of school as soon as the bell rang, drove 20 minutes away to pick it up at the one store I knew had it, and had to RUSH back to catch the bus for an away volleyball game. I remember listening to it as the JV team played and just taking it in...the songs that I rewound cause they moved me somehow or made me tap my feet...

It was just so powerful to me that something could connect me so instantly and strongly with the person I was then...the dreams I had...the goals...my feelings on my future and the world and theatre and everything and realizing now, as I listen to it again in a new form, how different I've become and what I like about that, what I don't like...

Keep in mind, I'm someone who teaches theatre and I'm always shaking my head at my high schoolers who are all about Rent, usually saying "you'll grow out of that fad"...but now I'm like, shunning myself that I've become the person who does that - who sees something inspiring people, the same way this OBC inspired me, and knocks it down as "you'll learn more about theatre and your perspective will change" rather than embracing it.

For some reason, that's what listening to this did for me.

There were changes that I love, changes that made me a lil sad, but I can't wait to see the movie cause I have this feeling that it'll all work for that medium and seem like the perfect choice for cuts/adjustments that needed to be made, etc.

It just took me back to not even my childhood but the year I left the nest and set out to accomplish my dream, and it was very powerful - so much that I was all full of chills and tears and inspiration, as I stated previously.

Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. :)

ps. the original was $35 when I bought it - if it weren't a double disc I'd be peeved, but I paid $25 for mine which I think is a good deal for two full cd's - bway double discs are in the $30's, right?

If I show you the darkness I hold inside, will you bring me to light?

I'm loving "Love Heals"

I LOVE "LOVE HEALS" TOO!

wow. just wow wow wow wow wow about that song.

rKrispyt-i actually understand about what you're saying. RENT is defiantely a show that really, truly INSPIRES people and changes lives. i have never seen the show, but every time i listen to either the OBCR or the soundtrack, i get so into it, even though i dont know what has happened prior (or during) that song. it's amazing how it can have that effect on you.

I think that the Soundtrack, is such an improvement over the OCR.

And I second the points brought up by HeyMrMusic.

But the one thing that I really love about this Cd is Rosario Dawson. I find my self listening to Out Tonight (A song that i could not stand before because i am not a Daphne Rubin-Vega fan) and Another Day over and over. With Rosario, I believe that Mimi is actually 19 and I feel that her voice fits with this cast.

Overall, the orchestrations are amazing, the vocals are astounding, and while i miss some of the cuts songs/lines, I think that this recording is top notch
