I don't think anybody (certainly not myself) is undermining the loss of the performer. It is a very tragic incident that is one of the many reasons I despise computer controlled technical equipment. However, I do think it's fair to recognize (on a different note) the extent Cirque goes when it comes to safety. In no way am I saying that their high standards for safety makes up for the loss of a performer, however, I was just noting that I am thankful that they put so much of their money and effort into the safety and well being of their performers.

As far as deaths at Cirque goes, this isn't the first death. Back in 2009, a Ukrainian acrobat died during training after succumbing to head injuries received after a fall from a trampoline apparatus. As for as injuries go, they are constant at Cirque due to the nature of the performances. Lots of attention last year was pointed to Ká and MJ: One in Vegas as one performer from each show fell from their equipment (the wheel of death and a slack rope respectively). It is very uncommon for any performer related injuries to be a product of a fault on behalf of Cirque. However, much alike all forms of entertainment, accidents do happen.

When it comes to injuries, one comes to mind from Big Apple's tour several years ago. Anna, a flyer with the Rodion Trio, a russian barre troupe, suffered a serious fall and came very close to death. It was a miracle that she survived as her neck was badly injured. Thankfully she was able to make a full recovery and was back in the show in just weeks. I personally knew a performer who suffered a fall from the wheel of death in his youth and spent 6 months in a coma. Most of his organs were badly damaged if not impaled by pieces of his ribs. Although he's never returned to the wheel of death, he is still performing and him as his family have their own successful animal act. Self sustained injuries such as these are accidents that happen daily in EVERY circus, both big and small.


Again, Ms. Guillot's death still saddens me deeply today and my heart goes out to her entire family and relatives. There is no "however," in this case, Cirque needs to be sure things like this don't happen and based on their viewpoints on safety, I am positive they will.

So, you have stated you ONLY go to Vegas to see shows. Then you proceeded to name three additional things you do when you go to Vegas. Hm. But, someone who pretends to be me to edit their own comments, saying things like "editing as sutton ross-another inane comment was above-just blocked[my first and it worked].", then continues responding to my comments a week later can't be all that bright in the first place. As someone who is currently in a cirque show right now, I would just like to add to Starship's statement. Cirque's main priority is safety. Injuries will happen but the Cirque team in every show will do everything they can to keep the artists injury free. Every show has qualified physicians on hand every day. Artists are allowed and encouraged to sign up for physical therapy and Muscle maintenance during the long 10 show (sometimes 12) week. Cirque wants you to be in the best condition and if they do not think a particular artist is up to it for that particular day, then they will not put you in the show. Better safe than sorry. 10 shows a week is a grueling schedule and with this type of activity you can bet cirque does everything they can to keep the artists off the sidelines.
