Its 2 things for me. I love the idea that I'm touching people all over and in so many different ways with something as beautiful as theatre and music. I love to see the audience's reactions to everything and I just love that feeling of being onstage and in the moment.
That and I'm a very crazy loud person by nature and I feel comfortable on stage where no one is judging me or thinking that I look stupid for doing something silly. It lets me express my really silly side with other people who are just as passionate about theatre as I am.

I agree. Personally I have lived, breathed, and essentially eaten theatre for so long I love all of it. Not just the acting part, but ushering and everything else I do. With ushering I get make sure people are comfortable and everything, plus side I get to enjoy seeing a show for free. I also love being able to play a different person than myself and walk through their emotions and problems that they encounter on a daily basis. I also love just watching theatre and being entertained by the people up there and support them all the way.

For me it's a way to emote and express myself and no one have a hay day over it. I can scream and swear at someone onstage; I can bawl my eyes out; I can give a girl a rose followed by a big smack on the lips re: What is your favorite part of being in Theatre and no one sees it as anything but acting, when for me its much more than that. I'm letting myself go. I'm not holding anything back. I'm giving it my all. And I'm loving it! re: What is your favorite part of being in Theatre

Same goes for singing, but even more so. Emotion comes alot more naturally to me when I sing, and you can really get into something when you sing. Oh man, I just love it; what can I say? LOL

To be and say what I can't in my normal life. And to be honest, the rush I get when I hear an applause, laughter (in a good way), or great comments directed at me. re: What is your favorite part of being in Theatre

I love that feeling you get when you hear everyone cheering and applauding for you after weeks of work. Its that moment of true accomplishment for me and I can never stop smiling when that happens. It pumps me so full of adrenaline to see our hard work pay off.

The chance to express myself and share with other people different sides of myself that it is sometimes difficult to express just with words in real life. My number one goal when finding a character is to try to find ways that I can relate to her. It's fascinating the amount I have learned about myself by exploring my psyche and emotions while finding characters.

"This is what I trained to do, and this is what I love about theater. What I love about being an actress is being able to really look into myself and understand another human being. And out my own self, to shape and form and fashion a real human being--and to present that in such a way that people see something of themselves or their own understanding in that human being." --Phylicia Rashad

Getting nervous before the show, creating family after family in new shows, holding hands with the cast before the curtain goes up, forgetting there is an audience and having an amazing time with the people on stage, hearing an applause and knowing its for you...my list could go on and on lol

i would have to agree that my favorite part of theater is getting to be someone else and display a huge range of emotion and feeling, without being judged as being weird (i KNEW there were other people out there that felt like that). I always feel like i can by myself on stage and at rehearsal, its not as uptight as in school.

also, the applause, gotta love that. Though usually you cant see anyone until the house lights come up, seeing all the people is cheering and clapping is amazing. Though, its always been my dream to get one of those BIG applauses during the curtain call. I suppose it would feel more personal. But nonetheless, any applause it awsome

one more thing, when you hear how touched people were after watching a show you were in is also awesome. For example, last year we did West Side Story at my school. Though I was only a Jet (Snowboy to be exact), our last scene with Tony's death was very emotional. Our director (who was in the back of the auditorium), told us how the entire row of people in front of her were bawling their eyes out. I think that was also very gratifying.

ok, im ranting too much. Done now

my favorite part of theater is being someone who either doesn't exist or isn't remotely like you for 2 to 3 hours. That's my favorite part. Oh and Ladies dig it.

The bonding of the cast. The family like atmosphere.

The lessons I've learned - such as it's ok to adore people who have completely different views and morals as you do. If you don't get to know them just because you do different things with your lives, it's losing a relationship. The getting to know people you never would have without hte one common interest. How it's ok to not like everyone. But the people you like, you LOVE. I gained my first real group of friends because of theatre.

The making the audience feel something. No matter how much crap goes on behind the scenes, it's all worth it if you can make ONE member of the audience laugh or cry for the half hour-hours you are on stage. That's why I love character roles - if I made one person smile who wasn't when they came in here then it's enough. I. made. someone. happy. And that, to me, is amazing - to have that effect on people.

The INCREDIBLE energy that iddint happen during rehearsal bc there was no audience. Selfishly, the compliments afterward. (Cmon you all love them!) The rewarding feeling of accomplishing a role you thought you would be awful in (I was just in a show yesterday and that happened).

The amazing feeling of relaxation after a show where you feel high/drunk - soo relaxed just because you like these people and youve just put on a good show.

The amazingness that is green room. How such people come together over one interest and sharing the stage high.

All I've ever done is play pit in my high school musicals, but I love being involved in something that could be so great. One of my friends in college really made me think of something great about being involved with theatre in general. He said with sports(we're both also huge sports fans) there are a lot of fans but your goal is to win. With theatre, your goal is to entertain the audience. Your goal is to make the fans happy. It's just so amazing to be involved with something that is purely for a live audience.

"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli

I was a stage manager my class's 11th grade play and i just had tons of fun. The other times i have done stage crew, the cast and crew were just so fun and great to hang out with. I have never experienced anything other like being in the theater. It really is just great fun!

"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell plus i proudly share the title of the shortest member over the age of 10 with wickedrentq!

Well... lol

It started with being the youngest child and wanting attention..

Then, it turned into wanting to be someone else... not wanting to deal with my problems, but with the problems of a person I was playing. The fact that people weren't necessarily judging me when they were watching, but the character instead.

And now it has just become a part of me... something that I don't know how to live without. I get antsy and bothered when I'm not doing it... lol

So I guess it's just the whole package... maybe? lol Who cares why I love it, I'm just happy I do!

everything. simply everything and anything about it..
the random "in jokes" (obilogo nino....:)
the way the theatre smells ...musty curtains, hard wood mohogany,
the stories, the history, the romance, the action, the passion, the drive, the heart, soul and ache, the auditions, the applause, the compliments :), the make-up, the costumes, the reading your name in a playbill for the first time, the lights, the sounds, the orchestra, the clammy hands and sore feet, the endless rehearsals in 90 degree weather with a broken air conditioner, the feeling when you open a script for the first time, the beauty of your name in lights...
the list goes on and on.

Was that a fat joke?

What everyone has been saying *to lazy to type* and it's just... fun. Just being part of something, all of my casts have become really close. And hanging backstage and feeling...important when you get to miss class time to perform for everyone. Theatre rocks!

A most ingenious paradox.
