I keep thinking that Sister Act 2 would make an awsome musical, despite its very very obvious cheesiness and the fact that it is blatantly unrealistic. If a book was worked on to make it seem more life-like and more songs were added, I think you'd have something to work with (don't kill me for the idea). Any other movie into musical ideas?

I always thought the 1942 Bing Crosby film "Holiday Inn" would make a great musical! Lots of great Irving Berlin songs!
Maybe HILLARY AND JACKIE could be Mel Brooks next Broadway Musical.

Mel Brooks' Robin Hood Men in Tights would be interesting, and I think I heard that they considered Blazing Saddles. The Nightmare Before Christmas could also work, but the score would have to be expanded. Also...
The obvious ones: Moulin Rouge, Mulan
Announced/Planned: Fight Club, Spiderman, Catch Me If You Can (FC and Spidey will be horrible, imo)

Actually, I think Mel Brooks is starting (or has planned) to make Young Frankenstein into a musical.
strange I was thinking about this earlier
Moulin Rouge
The greatest thing there is to learn is just to love and be loved in return
I said this before, "My Man Godfrey" And about two weeks after I posted it on the boards broadway.com wrote an article about how it was becoming a musical. good choice i guess.

I would love to see Sister Act 2 as a musical. Sister Act 1 could work too. They would need to get Kathy Najimy(sp?) though. She is hilarious and makes those movies.
pleasantville is being created into a musical now. Nightmare on Christmas already is one pretty much. Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuics would be an experience.
OMG, Pleasantville? I LOVE LOVE LOVE that movie. Wait! How is that going to work? How are they going to do the black and white to color thing? This is stupid........what I am saying. DON'T DO PLEASANTVILLE!!!! THE SHOW WILL NOT WORK!!!!!!
I've been waiting patiently for EDWARD SCISSORHANDS to finally happen. If done correctly, that could be the most magical and memorable theatre experience. Ever.

i'm sure they could handle the black and white thing fine with makeup and costumes..and black & white scenery of course. it would be a great musical.
THE USUAL SUSPECTS should be a new musical.

THE MUSICAL
Music and Lyrics by JIM STEINMAN (the greatest composer of all time)
Book by DAVID IVES
Directed by TIM BURTON

Scissorhands started life as a complete musical, but they cut the songs for the movie (for some reason). Maybe they could bring back the songs for a stage-show.

How about.... an original story.... with original music.... original producers.... original actors......
now that would just be NUTS. it might actually make theatre progress. and we can't have that. although, if i had to pick a film or two, i'd say escape from alcatraz and tod browning's Freaks, now on dvd.
I like the Pleasantville Idea.
With lighting, most anything can be achieved, yes? Hell, it's not like I have a clue, anyway.
I'd love to see Robin Hood: Men In Tights.
Cider House Rules? And for some reason, I could see Indiana Jones as an opera. That could be the sleepiness talking though.
