Down With Love screams to be a musical.

Im actually watching Sister Act right now on HBO lol, it could be a great musical. I don't know who can take Whoopie's place, she's great in that movie. Down with Love would make a cool musical, somewhat like H2$. The only problem with that is that it wasnt such a popular movie...then again niether was Thoroughly Modern Millie and that was great! All That Jazz would make a pretty cool show. Updated On: 8/19/04 at 03:20 PM

so lets just get Whoopi to do it! I'll give her a call and work it all out!
rocknfenris, when you can convince tourists to pony up $100 for something completely unfamiliar to them, when they haven't had to do it for years now, then we'll have some more original shows. It's not about progressing theater - it's about the survival of Broadway period.
THE GODFATHER
ANACONDA
THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE
ALIEN VERSUS PREDATOR
CHASING PAPI
Steel Magnolias, Possums! "Drink your Juice, Shelby..."
Including songs with titles like:
Blush and Bashful
Come and sit next to me
I Hit Ouisa
It IS a Brown Football Helmet!
ahhh - the possibilities are endless....Possums!

I'm not really understanding this whole 'never make movies into musicals' ideology. Theatre has always turned to other forms of expression for inspiration. And even the oh-so-venerated Mr. Sondheim felt a film by Bergman sufficiently intriguing to give us A Little Night Music.
"Maybe HILLARY AND JACKIE could be Mel Brooks next Broadway Musical. "
That made me laugh.

Mary Bond Davis could be Whoopi Goldberg's part.
Oh, and as for the movies not being musicals thing--ummmm hairspray was a movie? Are we forgetting that? So was Thoroughly Modern Millie.

I agree! "Down With Love" would make a fabulous musical!I would love to see that. It would be spectacular!
Matt_G, I am honored!
Ok now its time to tell everyone what i think would be good going from screen to stageAll of the following movies, are movies that definately could work, if put on a stage)
Moulin Rouge
Garden State
Big Fish
Camp
Party Monster
Catch me if you can
A Beautiful Mind
EEEEEK aside from Newsies - ha - can I vote for no more movies into musicals? How about a truly original idea? Like Bare!
sister act is pretty much the show nunsense though...which was an off broadway show. charlie and the chocolate factory maybe... but they'd have to do it right. and none of those cheesy songs that are in the movie.

To the person who mentioned "Holiday Inn," they just did a big stage adapataion of "White Christmas" in San Francisco, directed by Walter Bobbie. Not QUITE the same thing, but close.
And to the person who mentioned "My Man Godfrey," that was going to be a project of Alan Jay Lerner (I forget the composer.) There's a book of his collected lyrics that has a lot of songs from it, which might be interesting to you.
Newsies is SCREAMING to be made into a broadway show.
in my opinion, connie and carla was a disgrace. EEEK!! what a waste of toni!
At least she looked like she was having a good time. Did you ever see her play Petra in "A Little Night Music"? She was fantastic!
I agree with the Newsies idea.. I thought Connie and Carla was GREAT ! It was humorous! Hollywood needs some good comedy flicks..

I know this is not a movie (yet?), but I always wanted to see "The Love Boat" turned into a musical. The theme song is great and there is some really stupid story lines to make fun of. It is very limited in it's depth but I always love a comedy.
Some of you are probably too young to remember some of the story lines but one of my favourites is when (Senator) Gopher falls in love with Julie and sings "I only have eyes for you" in a tight fitting mexican outfit.
I also can see an Isace (the bartender) dance number to a CopaCabana like song. Great fun.

The only well worth mentioning, aspect of that movie was the david duchovney 'brother relationship'. I think that's what hollywood needs more of.
And yes comedy/fun is good.

I agree with "None should" because this whole movie to musical thing is sooooo out of hand now.
But, if they wanted to do a good one with a great concept and great musical numbers with good stage effects:
Big Fish
Party Monster??? Awful film dealing with an awful subject about awful people. No thanks.
Heart and Souls DEFINITELY should be a musical.
