I was watching this movie last night and all i could think about was how great it would work on Broadway. I love the music too.

I think Little Mermaid would be a great show to bring to the stage. I know Kerry Butler was involved with some upcoming project as Ariel, but its still in works or its still and idea or something. But I know Kerry would be amazing as Ariel. Just think of the swimming girls affect from AIDA before Strongest Suit. I can SO picture all the dazzling effects of an underwater set. Especially if its by Disney.

The only problem I see is Ariel moving. And I don't think they'd have her suspended the entire time. And the set will probably be costly. Ah, crap, screw it...

ANASTASIA actually began as a play, which became a movie with Ingrid Berman and Yul Brynner. It then surfaces as a short-lived musical called ANYA, starring Constance Towers, Lillian Gish and Michael Kermoyan.

I have no problems with converting movies into shows. It would be nice to see Broadway be a little more daring and try different types of movies. I was reading aintitcoolnews.com and came across a review of Evil Dead the musical! Now this is something I would pay to see. I posted a link to the article below. Would also be great fun to see the Silence of Lambs musical that's mentioned in the article. We've posted about that before. Visit silencethemusical.com for a good laugh.

"Pocketful of Miracles" would be a perfect adaptation for a stage musical.

I'd rather see something completely original for a change.

Given a certain thread on this board, I'm starting to think that NORMA RAE would be poignant at this time. =)

I would love "Little Mermaid" to come to broadway! Only if Kerry is Ariel, and I'm Flounder! LOL

Pocketful of Miracles was in the planning stage 5-8 years back with a perfectly cast Stritch as Apple Annie attached to it. The money couldn't be raised. Pity. I think the composer was Charles Strouse.

Somewhere in my personal archive is the surprisingly melodic original cast lp of Anya. Maybe the strong melodies shouldn't be too surprising since they were 'borrowed'--granted with credit given--from Rachmaninoff (sp), a la Kismet and Borodin.

My own "would be" musical is My Brilliant Career, a novel before made into the wonderful film. All of those characters are just waiting to sing.

I dated a guy who sincerely wanted to make Triumph of the Will into a musical.

Hence the "ed" in "dated."

Stevos, I pray for the day The Toxic Avenger comes to Broadway. Actually, I think it could be a huge Off-Broadway success.

I think The Business of Strangers with Stockard Channing would probably make a terrific play.

Presumed Innocent would also work well I bet.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

GATSBY was made into a pretty deent opera about six years ago. Played two seasons at the Met.

Okay, my cotribution to this thread subject that will never die (At one point when I was here four years ago, someone suggested Hawking's History of the Universe -- but hey, whatever...):

For you ROCKY HORROR fans, the DVD of a sorta kinda sequel was released this week, SHOCK TREATMENT. It's the continuing story of Brad and Janet's now-troubled marriage, has a score by RH's Rochiard O'Brien, and featured many of the actors who were in the previous movie.

Flat out: this thing *screams* for a stage production, especially now. Written and produced in 1981, it's set entirely in a TV studio and deals with, surprisingly enough, reality TV and its affects on people. It's an amazing piece of work -- self-contained, hysterically funny, with some seriously kick-ass music. The film looks like it was shot last week, not twety years ago.

All you nascent producers out there, check into this. It's a goldmine waiting to happen.
