Maybe shows like Hadestown will help them crossover, but I feel like more mainstream pop sounds are more likely to be the commercially fruitful path."
I definitely expected (and hoped) to see a major increase in folk music on Broadway after Hadestown, and I was surprised it didn't happen. Maybe covid stalled that as well? Although the most likely story is that it won't make money. Oh well, a girl can dream. Maybe we'll see more soon."
There was "folk music" in Hadestown? Must have been while I was asleep!

This is a funny joke - but actually, after witnessing the brilliance of Oratorio For Living Things (probably the closest we'll ever get to a Gregorian chant musical), I honestly wouldn't complain!
It won't be on Broadway, but I'm looking forward to hearing what the new Cats "remix" orchestrations sound like. Not sure you could technically call it EDM in the traditional sense, but this total reimagining of the score might actually get people excited for yet another production of that show, for once.
