I haven't felt this old in quite a while. What is the average age of the people who post on this message board?

When I think of my all-time favorite musical, nothing recent would even come to mind. PHANTOM? God no. RENT? Nope. MILLIE? No way. DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES? I'm still giggling over THAT one.

In considering the score, the book, the production itself (i.e. sets, lighting, costumes, etc.), without a doubt, only one show satisfies on all levels...

SWEENEY TODD.

Best musical of the last few decades, hands down.

Itty Bitty Geisha? Toyland? Gypsy Pasadoble? Just a few popular favorites...

Into the Woods is by far my favorite.

There are too many others to count and name, but I think The Life was highly underrated and ran too short. Think Thoroughly Modern Millie is classic Broadway.

Miss Saigon, just seen it on UK tour and have seen it in the West End. It has everything.

My highest tallys go like this:

Fame - 5 times
Blood Brothers - 5 times

I'll have to agree with scooter. Sweeney Todd has the best plot of any Broadway musical. I mean, who in their right mind would know that the beggar is Sweeney's wife before the end? Perfectly marvelous! (Yes, that's a nod to my other favorite "Cabaret,")

I love Aida, Hairpray and tick, tick...BOOM (even though it was off-broadway).

SondheimFreak...I was in the audience during the last week of previews of the original production of SWEENY TODD...I intuited that the Beggar Woman was Sweeny's wife sometime before Act One. It is a pretty obvious plot device. Sorry to disappoint.

Yours for a better Broadway.

On the flip side, my favorite play is Take Me Out. I've seen it 2 1/2 times. ( I happened by the theater at intermission and someone I know associated with the show gave me an unused ticket to watch the second half.) Great cast and a very funny and poignant show.

La Cage Aux Folles-0. Opening night of the revival in 2005 w/ Dollypop as my date will be my first experience.

Jekyll & Hyde-Twice on Broadway, once on tour, once in a community theater production-the guy who played Jekyll was so bad that he couldn't do "Confrontation" by himself. They taped him doing the Jekyll part and he sang into a tv screen which was supposed to be a mirror. Unintentionally funny; countless times on video even though Hassellhoff butchered the part.

Hairspray. I've only seen it once, but I plan on seeing it again in November with the tour. I love it because it's so fun and exciting!

Mine is definitely a tie between Gypsy and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Though I have seen Gypsy more times.

hands down - Millie - 3 (soon to be 4) times since 1/31/03 when I "discovered" the oh-so-talented Ms. Foster. A little scary, but it's healthy I promise...

It's a tie between Thoroughly Modern Millie and 42nd Street
42nd Street- twice
Thoroughly Modern MIllie- 3 Times
Both shows satisfy me in both book, score, sets, definitely costumes, and certainly actors and actresses. (Well, most)

Yes!!! The Franco Zeffirelli production which is currently on stage at the Met. It's beautiful sets and costumes put the Luhrman production to shame. I've seen it 28 times!

I guess this is a big fat duh, but Cabaret. Seen it 34 times, 35 this coming week. I've done lots of research on the show, and I can safely say no matter what incarnation I see, it's still my favorite show. One of my favorite moments in theatre is the kickline right after intermission...it's a seamless way of transitioning into the mood and themes of the second act, and the lighting, costumes, choreography, and historical accuracy is just perfect.

The Phantom of the Opera. But it's not my favorite overall musical. I've seen it 4 times (5 this October)
