A friend of mine were just recently in New York to see Wicked (which was amazing of course) and we say these huge posters for the show Memphis. I'd heard of it, but never looked to into it until I saw pictures from the show. We bought the piano book and listened to the soundtrack and immediately fell in love. But is the storyline good? We only get so much from just the soundtrack. Anyone seen it and say if it's worth going to see?

EricGraise, 'Memphis' is a Broadway musical by Joe Di Pietro and David Bryan (of Bon Jovi) about a 1950s white deejay who championed R&B on the air and falls in love with a black singer. Some folks passionately love this show, and others passionately hate it; if you Google, you will find reviews from both camps. At any rate, it won 4 Tonys last year, for Best Musical, Score, Book and Orchestrations, and will soon be shown across the country in movie theaters in an HDTV version, April 28-May 3. Here's a link to their website; hope it helps!

You either love it or you hate it. I saw it when it first opened and loved it!

A word of warning, Eric. It's not very popular here on the boards. Me personally, I really like it.

if i'm going to be completely honest, i love it - NOW! i didn't particularly care for it when i first saw it, but the show has grown on me every time i saw it, and there is so much in the book that gets easily overlooked the first (few) time(s) you see it. there are a lot of moments and lines that foreshadow things that happen later in the show, and if you listen carefully, the lyrics are not always as peppy as the music. my favorite song "someday" is actually a lovely upbeat song, whose lyrics state 'some day i'm gonna break your heart, some day i'll leave you blue.'

the dancing is incredible, and the cast is outstanding, no matter who is on, they rock the shubert 8 times a week!

Yes, different opinions on this one. When it previewed people predicted it was going to close within months, but it's been doing steady business at the Shubert since winning Best Musical.

In my opinion it really is a fun musical. The book has its weak moments, but the show is very uplifting and most of the score is great. Montego Glover is also one of the reasons to see this show, IMHO.

If you liked Wicked... and 'love' the soundtrack then you will like the show.

as others have said there are people on this board that arent fans, but there are also a lot of people who hate Wicked too.
