I always thought LOST IN YONKERS would make a fantastic, heart-tugging musical.

I see Anne Bancroft as Grandma Kurnitz.

Hey Rath... :)

Good ol' Annie Bancroft CAN sing (not like Betty Buckley, but...), anyway I see the Grandma Kurnitz part heavier on the acting side than on the singing side so I think she would do just fine.

By the way, Bancroft was management's first choice to play Fanny Brice in FUNNY GIRL--there are even some demo tapes floating around somewhere of her singing "I'm The Greatest Star!" :)

There's also A DAY WELL SPENT--the original GERMAN play THE MERCHANT OF YONKERS is based on (with NO Dolly Levi Character!)

Hey again Rath...

Believe it or not, the Roz Russell film version of GYPSY (1962)has no character named Yonkers. Or Tulsa or LA for that matter.

ALL farmboys have the same uniquely descriptive name: 'Farmboy.' :)

A DAY WELL SPENT doesn't feature any scenes set in Yonkers. Most of the play takes place in Vienna.
