It all depends on which of the CD's that you already own are your favourites.
You can tell which CD's are going to be most suited to your tastes.
Some notes:
MAMMA MIA is an awful recording, of a fairly dire show. I have it and rarely listen to it, even now that I have seen the show.
ALL SHOOK UP is fun, very upbeat and represents some fantastic arrangements of Elvis songs. I really love this recording.
COMPANY is OK. It has some interesting songs but isn't to my tastes really, 'Being Alive' excepted. This is more of a CD that I feel it's kinda implied you have to own to be a credible MT fan, but screw that.
MISS SAIGON and PHANTOM are both excellent. I recommend the Complete Recording of Saigon (although the OLC is also lovely, so it's really a case of listen and decide) - I have both. Phantom is another must have show. I have only heard the OLC, and I simply love Michael Crawford's performance as Phantom. IMO, you have to own both of these recordings.
SWEET CHARITY is a fantastic update of a classic show. I guess whether you like the new orchestrations is a matter of taste, but I really think they add to the show, and the recording quality of this is excellent. I would also recommend this CD.
URINETOWN is a bit of a white elephant. There are one or two good songs, the rest is just bland exposition. And it's seriously not that funny once you've heard it a few times.
The rest are all a bit blah IMO.
^ Agree with what he said about Charity. It's a fun recording. The new orchestrations aren't that much different, the only major change is "The Rhythm of Life." Now the 86 Revival recording has some odd orchestrations.
