Coming down for the weekend, have Pippin tix for Saturday night. Have been away from the board for a few weeks and haven't read anything about anything. I did see good words here on Old Friends (Buckley and Foote were enough for me, but very much appreciate the comments from those who saw it). Need shows for Saturday and Sunday matinees.
TDF looks barren. Seen everything on B'way that we're going to see that has been open for more than 90 days, so looking for info on:
First Date
and that's it for B'way
Tell me about these:
Buyer & Cellar -- It sounded good, but reviews I saw were mixed, and I'm not a big Babs fan (sorry)
Women or Nothing (I know, previews start tomorrow, but is there buzz?)
The Two Character Play?
Something other than those?
Thanks!

TWO CHARACTER PLAY is fantastic--kind of like Tennessee Williams meets Samuel Beckett. And Amanda Plummer gives one of the best performances I have ever seen.
I saw First Date this past Sunday night. I really enjoyed it. The show is only 95 minutes with no intermission, so it flies by. I laughed out loud a ton. And that doesn't happen with me often!! It was light and fun. I stayed after to get autographs and photos. What a great cast both on and off the stage! Zach and Krysta both stay until everyone who wants an autograph and photo get one. Great experience.

Old Friends is sold out for the two matinees. Got Two Character Play through TDF for Saturday.
Still need one more for Sunday
BUYER & CELLAR is the cream of your crop. It's not about Babs as much as it sounds, she's just the particular celebrity the tale is inspired by and draped over. It's really more interesting than Tales-from-the-Streisand-Crypt if that's what you've heard. And the writing is really crisp, great characterizations, and a lot of fun to listen to Urie work through.
It's much better than THE TWO-CHARACTER PLAY, which was one of the worst things I've seen all year. I couldn't even tell if I thought Dourif and Plummer were doing a good job or not, because it is so horribly-written. It's never produced for a reason; it should have stayed at the bottom of Tennessee's drawer collecting dust. It is too obtuse, too experimental, and yet not experimental enough to justify it's own weirdness. It was just horribly dull and mortifyingly boring.
First Date is on TDF for Sunday the 1st (both performances, 3 and 7). It's one of the few that has a Sunday night performance.
Thanks for the B&C and First Date suggestions. I'm leery of TDF for B'way shows. I've used them 3 times for B'way and always ended up in a rear corner.
Might have to bite the bullet and see a show (not really) about Babs.
Or we might end up in the TKTS line. Haven't done that in probably our last dozen trips to the city.

i loved FIRST DATE!! Laughed thru the whole show, as did the whole theater!
So, we saw:
Sat Mat: Two Character Play (from TDF): room wasn't half full, TDF got us front row, just offcenter.
Acting was superb, story notsomuch. First act was tedious and confusing, second act much stronger. Liked the show more after discussing among ourselves our theories of where they were and how they got there, but walked out of the theater generally disappointed
Sat Eve: Pippin: Bought tix months ago, when we missed out on it here in Boston. Loved the show, disappointed in the ending.
Sun Mat: Rock of Ages. I know, I know, but there was NOTHING ELSE PLAYING that we hadn't seen already, or couldn't get tix to. And this show pleasantly surprised us, or at least met our expectations. Douglas Carter Beane could sue as the story paralleled Xanadu an awful lot. What's that? There are only Seven Stories to tell? Ok then, nevermind.
