What shows can not be revived?

There are some shows that have just been done so well that they can not be revied like for instance Phantom and Les Mis. Any other shows or thoughts about shows that in like 20 years should be revived but can not be?

Actually, I think Les Miz, unlike most of the other big Brit imports, could work very well, maybe even better, with a different, more intimate direction. It would have to be VERY good, but I think it could be done.

Appearently, the original South Pacific was just so perfect that it couldn't be revived (that and the book hasn't aged very well).

Let My People Come. Why would anyone bother?

One would hope when Les Miserables is eventually revived someone has the good sense to get the blue pencil out and cut about 25 minutes from its running time.

Kander & Ebb's "The Act" will NEVER be revived. It was tailored especially for Liza Minelli!

I'm looking forward to the day that the rights to "The Blonde in the Thunderbird" are released. I really think I'm gonna make the role my own in regional theatre.

I can't wait to be Billy Crystal next year in our high school's production of 700 Sundays! It's a wonderful "play!" :)

I hear you, jam_man. Though right now I'm very busy working on playing the title role in Bea Arthur on Broadway.

Oh, honey. Good for you. I hope you find playing that role as satisfying as I did.

Indeed it is. Though lots of queens were really angry when I made my entrance. I could never figure out why.

You know what else is a great play? Robin Williams Live On Broadway! I was understudy in a community production last summer!

re: What shows can not be revived?

I must ask an important question. Should I do Elaine Stritch in drag, or should I let the strength of the material convince the audience that I am, in fact, Elaine Stritch. Lennon did that, sort of.

It really is, jam_man. Funny you should bring up understudying. When I was once the standby for the lead in the bus and truck tour of Shirley MacLaine and Shirley's Gypsies. I only got to go on once, but it's an experience I'll never forget.

Zoran, you've really got to start getting into character now. If you aren't already up to three packs a day, I'm afraid you might not get the best notices.

And I think you should do it in drag. I could probably lend you my costume. And (but you probably already know this) the shade of base you need to use is called "Menopausal Magic." It really does the trick.

Zoran, I need to someone to play Liza when I do Judy Garland at the Palace. Should I schedule an audition for you?

Do I really need to audition? We're practically family now!

Margo - I thought this thread looked familiar!

I'll be coming back to Broadway soon in "Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music." I have a fitting tomorrow for all new sequined caftans.

Don't be too dejected. I believe the rights to "Barbara Cook On Broadway" are now available. I'll send over my costume mistress for a caftan fitting, if you'd like.
