I was there when Brian Stokes Mitchell sang "Impossible Dream". I remember no standing ovation. I know I certainly didn't stand. Maybe others did, but it would have been only partial, at best.
If you go to youtube, and watch Mitchell singing the Impossible Dream, you see a standing ovation at the end.

Having been to more Tonys that most people have years, standing ovations are rare, very rare. There may be scattered folk standing up, but I remember no one performing from a show to get a standing ovation. There have been plenty of nice reactions, but no out-of-their-seats.
They are usually given when people get special awards like Richard Rodgers or when Merman tore the roof off.
However this year in the pre-show, Gerry Schoenfeld pointed out his good friend in the audience, Celeste Holm who turned 90 this year, and we stood and applauded her out of true affection.
Side Show should have.
I was at the Tonys this year and did deliver my own standing ovations. (needless to say to whom!) But, I did notice people get up for Ms. Holm. (I saw her afterward-she looks great! And she's sharp as a tack!)
Bernadette Peters did get one.
You said that.

John Kander got a standing ovation this year when he introduced Curtains - at least he did in the orchestra.
And on the Tonys clip I have, I clearly see part of the audience stand up after Movin' Out's performance, but it might not have been a full one.
wonderfulwizard11- I know I did. But someone before made it sound like no one ever gets one and that we're all making it up.
Stokes Mitchell had like 5 people stand up in the very back.
