What shows will close before Tony time?

I agree with Munk here...dubbing SPRING AWAKENING this glorious Tony hit so early in the season seems a bit much to me. Yes it got glowing reviews, but to say Grey Gardens & SA are sure fire bets at nods seems desperate.
MARY POPPINS still has got to be a pretty large threat...LOVEMUSIK sounds like one hell of a show...CURTAINS has a fantastic cast and a Kander/Ebb score...and LEGALY BLONDE, while maybe a movie, sounds like it has promise and potential.
6 Musicals that all have potential and 3 yet to open - ANYTHING could happen.

Posted: 12/14/06 at 1:57pmIt's definitely too much to label Spring Awakening a Tony winner for Best Musical at this point, but I would say it's definitely poised for a nomination.

Posted: 12/14/06 at 2:04pmSPRING AWAKENING has the edge because of reviews, but I feel that, between the two shows - as commendable as SPRING AWAKENING is - I would vote for GREY GARDENS.

Posted: 12/14/06 at 2:35pmLEGALLY BLONDE definitely has a better chance than HIGH FIDELITY. The people who want to see LB are a lot of the fan base for Broadway. Younger girls will jump at the chance to see it. Both HIGH FIDELITY and THE WEDDING SINGER were movies that appealed to age groups who are not as prominent in the Broadway community.

Well '12 Angry Men' will still be around. They'll probably be just finishing up their national tour I beleive in May of next year. Hopefully they'll be nominated for a Tony.

I never had any doubt that YOU would be so quick as to declare SPRING AWAKENING the winner of the year. So you're right about that. And isn't it interesting to see the pot calling the kettle pretentious?

Coming from someone who writes reviews that consist of repeated misspellings of the title of the show being reviewed, the names of the show's creative team that is being insulted, and adjective after adjective after adjective that makes up the rest of the review, I'll happily accept your labeling of my Tony predictions as "desperate".
MARY POPPINS still has got to be a pretty large threat...
MARY POPPINS is a threat alright. It's a threat to the future of Broadway as a showcase for promising artists presenting original, groundbreaking new musicals.
SPRING AWAKENING has the edge because of reviews, but I feel that, between the two shows - as commendable as SPRING AWAKENING is - I would vote for GREY GARDENS.
Well, you're not a Tony voter. Tony voting, especially for Best Musical, tends to be a business decision, not a selection of the best small, unique piece of art presented that season. The creative awards tend to go to those shows, while Best Musical goes to the show that has a promising future of making money for road voters (URINETOWN vs. MILLIE, PIAZZA vs. SPAMALOT, DROWSY vs. JERSEY BOYS).

While i liked SPRING AWAKENING a lot, I think GREY GARDENS is better written.
And the "tour" (who are they anywho?) voters are probably not gonna go for a show with masterbation and teensge sex.
Like it or not MARY POPPINS will be their favorite of shows up right now.

You need to be on Broadway to be nominated for a Tony.

Foster, your entire last post didn't even make sense.
I'm not sure what's been up your ass lately, but you've become quite the skeez.

Posted: 12/14/06 at 4:13pmI think SA is a pretty sure bet as a Best Musical nominee, IF (and it's a big if) it's still open next May. Of the shows that have already opened, SA and GG are the most likely IMO to get Tony noms for Best Musical. Of the four that haven't opened yet, The Pirate Queen has an uphill battle. Curtains will probably make it, with the final spot going to Mary Poppins, LoveMusik, or Legally Blonde depending upon how the last two turn out. IMO LoveMusik has an arty and somewhat inaccessible title, and I have a feeling the show itself is going to be arty and somewhat inaccessible, which might hurt its chances even if it gets respectful reviews.

I think SA will get nominated, but honestly, I can't see it doing well on the road. Can you imagine that show in a 3,000 seat concert hall in Nebraska? No. It barley works in a Broadway sized theater. While I think it's a great show, I don't think it will sell on tour. Mary Poppins seems to put a spell over people, so I wouldn't be suprised if it garnered a nod, but you never know. Legally Blonde looks to me to have promise. It's got a great team working on it, whereas Wedding Singer had a novice writing team that didn't really know what they were doing. Pirate Queen could be very successful as well. And for the record, I'm still suprised everytime I see Drowsy making a cool mill on Broadway. Good for them.
Btw, Munk, I love that you used the word "skeeze" - ha.

"Ah, they are from Broadway. In their advertisement for the play is clearly states 'direct from Broadway'."
That's because the play was on Broadway two years ago. They were eligible for awards back then, when they were nominated for some. What you're arguing is like saying the All Shook Up tour is eligible to be nominated for awards.

I got tired of your name calling. If you don't have anything worthwhile to contribute aside from name calling, I think it's time you take a trip back to Kindergarten.

Um why is there even a question, seriously. It's going to Xanadu, i already heared.
AND since I found out that In My Life is touring and that its directly from Broadway it will probably win best revival becuz its da best show evr.
Ok, in all seriousness. I think Spring Awakening has a very good chance if the voters can see past the masturbation and sex and etc. and see what the show really does. I have heared very bad things about Grey Gardens so I wouldnt be so quick to toss it into the nom catagory. Personally though its all about Xanadu

If you're so on the ball, why aren't you out there creating and producing instead of calculating the merits or lackthereof of just about everything, (barring Cheno of course)the one thing that get's all your unadulterrated praise.
